Please allow our redirect URI for the Asana MCP server (dynamic client registration refused)

We run KIT, an internal AI assistant platform at Trusted AI Solutions GmbH. KIT is an MCP client and connects to the Asana MCP server on behalf of our users.

Dynamic client registration against the register endpoint of the Asana MCP server is refused for our callback with: invalid_redirect_uri, “One or more redirect URIs are not allowed”.

The same registration request succeeds with a localhost callback and works for other known MCP clients, so the endpoint keeps an allow-list of redirect URIs. Registering an app in the Asana developer console does not help, because the MCP server is its own authorization server and answers “Client not found” for a console client.

Please add our redirect URI to that allow-list:

Client name: KIT

Company: Trusted AI Solutions GmbH, Germany

Contact: joshua.gierend (at) trusted-ai-solutions (dot) com

If you would rather issue a pre-registered client, we are glad to use a client ID and client secret from you instead.

Thank you.

@Joshua_Gierend would you mind sharing how you came across this URL for our MCP server?

Hi @Joshua_Gierend the response may be coming from the legacy v1 MCP server. That server only accepted dynamic client registration for redirect URIs on its allow-list.

We are not adding new redirect URIs to that list since v1 is deprecated, and new integrations should use the v2 server instead. You create the client yourself, we do not need to issue a client ID or secret.

  1. Point the client at https://mcp.asana.com/v2/mcp (Streamable HTTP).
  2. In the Asana developer console, create a new app and select MCP app as the app type.
  3. On that app’s OAuth settings, add the exact callback URL
  4. Under Manage distribution, allow the workspaces that should be able to authorize the app, or choose “Any workspace.”

Authorization then goes through Asana’s OAuth server with the client ID and client secret from that app. More details on these steps here: Integrating with Asana's MCP Server
