Native Right-to-Left (RTL) language support

Hi Asana team,

I’d like to request native RTL (right-to-left) language support in Asana. Right now, typing task names, descriptions, or comments in Hebrew, Arabic, Persian, or Urdu results in broken text alignment, misplaced punctuation, and incorrect rendering of mixed-direction content (e.g. Hebrew + English, or numbers within Arabic text). This makes Asana difficult to use as a primary work tool for anyone whose native language is written right-to-left.

The audience here is genuinely large:

  • Over 500 million people worldwide natively use RTL languages — Arabic (370M+ speakers), Hebrew (~9M), Persian (~110M), Urdu (100M+).
  • Around 15% of the world’s languages (roughly 150 languages across 12 scripts) are written right-to-left.
  • RTL users span the entire Middle East, North Africa, and parts of South and Central Asia — regions with rapidly growing SaaS adoption.

RTL support has also become a baseline expectation in modern productivity tools. Notion, Monday.com, ClickUp, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, and Figma have all implemented it. Teams evaluating Asana against these alternatives notice the gap immediately, and for multilingual organizations it often becomes a dealbreaker.

What I’m requesting:

  1. Automatic RTL text alignment when Hebrew, Arabic, or other RTL scripts are detected in task names, descriptions, comments, and custom fields.
  2. Proper bidirectional (BiDi) text rendering for mixed-language content.
  3. Correct text-direction handling across the UI — web, desktop, and mobile apps.

This is a long-standing, well-documented gap that affects a significant user base. I’d love to know if RTL support is on the roadmap, and if the community could help by consolidating votes on this request.

Thanks for considering it.
