Make Time Visible in Calendar View of My Tasks

Hello!

I have been an Asana user since 2014 and I have loved being part of the evolution of this incredible product. As the CEO of my company, I am on a mission to take my team’s time management skills to the next level and it’s mainly through Time Blocking all of our work and then tracking that time into categories so that I can see it in a report.

The My Tasks view that I embrace most to ensure no tasks fall behind and that I can quickly assess the number of tasks assigned to me per day is the Calendar view. I love this view! However, there is so much more that could be shown on this view to truly function as a calendar.

Honestly, just selecting a start date, start time, due date, due time is way too clunky and time consuming. If I could drag tasks higher or lower in my calendar to then automatically change the start time and end time in a task it would be incredible.

Please see screenshot as I hope my request is even more clear after viewing it.

Thank You!

As a Regional Sales Manager, your ability to manage time efficiently is critical to achieving both personal and team goals. An effective calendar system can significantly enhance your productivity, ensuring that you allocate time wisely to various responsibilities, including client meetings, team management, strategy development, and personal tasks.
Time Blocking would be so helpful so you can allocate specific blocks of time for particular activities. I truly feel this would do the following.

  1. Enhanced Focus and Concentration
  2. Improved Prioritization
  3. Increased Accountability
  4. Reduction of Procrastination
  5. Better Work-Life Balance
  6. Flexibility and Adaptability
  7. Enhanced Time Awareness
  8. Facilitation of Goal Setting and Progress Tracking

As for our company and myself, increasingly recognizing the value of structured time management is crucial to the adoption of time blocking, which can lead to enhanced performance and overall success.
Thank you for considering this.

Hi @Lauren_Cintorrino & @Nicholas_Marco , it this similar to your request?

Or are you asking for a day view specifically in My tasks? (not projects)

Hello @Richard_Sather !

My biggest ask is for time slot so show in the calendar view. If you go to Outlook and view your calendar that exact visual is what I want… I use zzbot integration between Outlook and Asana so having my outlook calendar and my asana calendar view match visually is my request. Even when tasks have a time associated they are not in order of earliest part of the day to latest part of the day when in calendar view… see screenshot in my first post.

Thank You!

Thanks @Nicholas_Marco. I’ve understood you want this for the My Tasks space specifically so I’ve gone ahead and appended that to the end of the title of this thread. Best to keep this separate to the other thread I mentioned above, then.

Perhaps a sort by due date (time) would help to stack the tasks in order. But yes, a similar look to how Outlook or other calendar apps visually represent the week, would be ideal!

This would change everything for the better. I was on a search to figure out how to achieve this today and found your post on the top of Google. I’m voting this up and wish I could add +1000!

I believe what’s even better than time blocking is:

  • time blocking some tasks in the calendar
  • use My Tasks with powerful sections and rules to be able to identify quickly the priority of different items

If you combine existing methods like time blocking with new methods adapted to Asana, you get a winning combo.

In my case for example, all the meetings I have with clients are tasks with a date and time. I also sometimes block my calendar and put a date and time on a task. But my view is always the List view, grouped By Sections but sorted by due date. I recorded myself triaging My Tasks if you are interested.

Thank you for sharing! However, I feel strongly that a true calendar view of tasks with a start date/time and due date/time would be a game changer for all users. It avoids having to switch between different views in My Tasks or collapse/expose the sections once your triaging for the day is done. It would truly give me one view of my day with a snapshot of how the time is going to be used without having to go into my Outlook calendar. There is applications out there that pull your Asana tasks in so that you can time block them into a calendar view but I am at my bandwidth of opening the door to yet another tool and really want to push for this enhancement.
