Make "Attach Files" one of the main icons on a Task window, or allow users to reorder the icons

I frequently need to attach multiple files to many of my organization’s tasks, and since the recent Asana redesign this has become much more cumbersome. When you look at a regular (not full expanded) task view, the main icons across the top of the task window aren’t useful ones, and the Attach Files option is buried several clicks down.

Right now, to attach every file, I need to click the … icon, then select the Attach Files menu item, then hover over the menu item until a secondary menu appears, and then in that menu select Choose a File, then go through the steps to select and upload the file.

Please put the Attach Files icon at the top of the Asana task view, instead of buried several items deep under the … icon.

(Alternatively, please allow individual users to customize which menu items appear at the top of their Asana instance’s tasks. Salesforce / Account Engagement does this, so you can set up your instance in the way that works best for your organization.)

Hi there! I understand that frustration. I have gotten in the habit of just drag/dropping files into descriptions or comments rather than go through the extra steps. Hopefully they can make that more user friendly.

Hi @Eliza_Gallo , perhaps you haven’t realised with the recent task details pane redesign, the Attachments have their own new section (where you usually find them) between Subtasks and Comments / All activity, with a + button to add files.

I personally find this a bit more intuitive than the previous :paperclip: along the top. It’s just a matter of getting used to it I guess :person_shrugging:

Aha erlebnis! I voted, but removed it again because the plus sign is an effective solution. Thanks @Richard_Sather

As an Asana user I always appreciate a good update in the product, but there are some that as someone with ADHD may find a hard time, and is the simple things that works where you ask yourself “why”.

I have been having a headache with the fact that the :paperclip:attachments - that we used to have at the top of our tasks -

… now it’s been moved to the section for more actions in the task - why?

It is an action that I’m pretty sure people use almost daily, it is at plain sight, need to attach a document or a folder? just click the :paperclip: icon and that’s it, now we had to figure out that it has been moved.

Sometimes when something works, and something simple like this, just keep it as is.

Hi @Barbara_Ramirez , I’m guessing this change is to make some space for the new A/B test that is moving the collaborators at the top of the task details pane, next to the new Share button on the task level, to mimic projects, as seen in your screenshot.

I can’t even find it now. SO ANNOYING.

@Barbara_Ramirez and @Richard_Sather,

What do you think about the idea of merging this topic into this new one just created:

Or if not, at least consider voting there.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi @lpb , see my response on that post:

Happy to merge, yes. But not sure this feedback is still applicable following the recent update.. do we still feel the icon along the top is required?

Thanks, @Richard_Sather. I think some folks will be fine using the + in the new section, or drag and drop, but some may still want to vote to make it accessible without having to scroll a potentially unwieldy task pane (I’m still lobbying heavily for in-page tabs in the task detail pane, which would address this problem and others) or open a menu to find it.

I’ve merged this topic into an existing topic where you can click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button at the top-left.

Thanks,

Larry

Thank you all for the thoughtful comments. I can try using the Attachment +, but on my screen this requires a significant amount of scrolling down to get to, so it’s as time-consuming as clicking the … icon. Both are more work than in the old design.

@Barbara_Ramirez you said it exactly—it is a daily activity for many users and should just be simple.

Also often I click the link icon at the top thinking it’s attachments, because it looks very similar to the paperclip. I could be wrong, but it seems likely to me that more people attach files on a daily basis than need to copy the link to a task to share to some external source.
