Limit search results to task title

Is it possible to limit a search in Asana to only task titles?

I donā€™t think so. Iā€™ve never seen anything like it and current filters donā€™t seem to have that option.

Hi @jaknudsen

@Bastien_Siebman is correct here. At the moment it is no possible to limit a search to Task Titles only but Iā€™ve moved this thread to the #productfeedback to allow you and other Forum Members to advocate for this request. I have slightly modified the title to make it more discoverable. I hope thatā€™s ok!

Have a great Friday! :grinning:

Thank you @Natalia

My scenario for asking is that we had a task a while ago about porting a server to https instead of http. We couldnā€™t remember which server, but the task had https in the title (which is rare in our case). A search for ā€˜httpsā€™ returned all tasks with web links in the description ā€¦

Hi @jaknudsen! Y totally get it!

Have you tried, in this case, to use all the filters possible in the Advanced Search?

Do you remember who created the task? If you were following that task? In which project was it nested? The approximated date that it was created? Using all the information you remember may help you improve and reduce your search results.

I hope this helps! Have a great Monday!

@jaknudsen, If you have any way to somewhat limit the results with Advanced Search filters, Iā€™ve used this trick in this past:

  • Search with those filters (e.g., maybe you know itā€™s an incomplete task, within some date range).
  • Scroll the results to make sure youā€™ve reached the end (donā€™t look, just scroll).
  • Use the browserā€™s Find (Ctrl-F) to look for https; because only the titles are showing, youā€™ll only be searching in the titles not the descriptions!

Hope that might help, but I agree the additional search feature is helpful and I upvoted.

Has this been resolved? It seems like a really basic improvementā€¦Where can I vote for it? Thanks!

I need to filter tasks only by title, if I use the search it look into the issue content giving too much unrelated results, how I can filter only by words in the title?

Hi @Arnold_Roa, welcome to the Asana Community Forum and thanks for sharing your feedback with us! We already have a thread on this topic so Iā€™ve gone ahead and merged your post with the main thread to consolidate feedback  We donā€™t have immediate plans to implement this feature but Iā€™ll make sure to keep you posted if we have any updates.

I am also looking for a way to limit the search to the Task Title only. This ā€˜seemedā€™ like an obvious capability to have, but I guess not? The current search results in WAY too many items that it is almost useless. I thought I might find an option in Advanced Search, but nope.

Iā€™m checking in again to see if there might be any movement to including the ā€˜Task Titleā€™ field in the Advanced Search capabilities. It seems that has not been added yet, which is unfortunate, because without that, search becomes almost useless in some situations where the count of the results based on the default ā€˜search everywhereā€™ is way to numerous to review. Iā€™m posting again to hopefully bring some attention to this ā€˜seeminglyā€™ relatively simple request.

Is this really still not an option? Restricting search to task title only is a simple syntax feature that has been very common for years now. Why canā€™t this be incorporated into your ā€œAdvanced Searchā€ feature set via a dedicated field or a set of syntax commands?

We stumbled upon this one with @Julien_RENAUD recently as well, thatā€™s quite needed indeed!

Is there any update on if/when this will be an option?
