My team manages marketing & communications for multiple client organizations, and Asana has been a lifesaver for tracking outgoing marcomm work. One thing we’d like to be able to do is pull outgoing work across channels for each client into a single calendar view, displaying emails, social media posts, website homepage announcements, online community messages, etc. Ideally we’d like to have these color coded by channel. We have a field to specify channels, but the item colors aren’t based on that field (as far as I can tell, there’s no rhyme or reason dictating which field is used—it varies from item to item).
Is there a way to tell it to use a specific field for color coding within that view, so it’s easy to tell at a glance which channel each item belongs to?
Awesome, this is perfect & exactly what I was looking for! The problem we just ran into is that our Mktg Channels is a multi-select field because of the way we use it for submissions.
Just off the top of my head, you might be able to make a rule to populate a corresponding single-select so you could use that field for coloring. I think it would be straightforward if the multi-select has only one selection. Otherwise, you could set a “Multi” single-select option, or other more specific groupings common or important to you.
Thanks for that suggestion Larry. I’ve got a couple of ideas for how we can get this to work. What I might do is adjust the field name for the multi-select so that users can input which promo channels each offering needs to go out to, and then in our task templates for each deliverable type I can include a single-select field for the type of deliverable. Appreciate your notes—you’ve always been very helpful as I’ve had questions.
