šŸ’” How to know if a custom field is used

Hi,

If you are using Custom Fields, there is a good chance you already have some clean-up to do, with outdated fields. But how can you be sure a field you are about to delete is not used by anyone, including private projects?

You all know the amazing tool Ā« Custom Field Explorer Ā» created by the very talented developer than I am, but I have to be modest: my code canā€™t see a field being used by a private project :grimacing:

Turns out, you can actually know by editing the field: a banner at the top will say ā€œChanges to this field will affect multiple projects and portfolios using itā€. Otherwise, you are good to go!

Does that help?

Hi there,

Can I with this tool see where a custom field is used? eg. in which specific projects and portfolioā€™s?

Cheers,
Jerome

My tool Custom Field Explorer shows which project is using the field. 2 limitations: only works with fields in the library + does not show portfolios (yet).
