💡 How to know if a custom field is used

Hi,

If you are using Custom Fields, there is a good chance you already have some clean-up to do, with outdated fields. But how can you be sure a field you are about to delete is not used by anyone, including private projects?

You all know the amazing tool « Custom Field Explorer » created by the very talented developer than I am, but I have to be modest: my code can’t see a field being used by a private project :grimacing:

Turns out, you can actually know by editing the field: a banner at the top will say “Changes to this field will affect multiple projects and portfolios using it”. Otherwise, you are good to go!

Hi there,

Can I with this tool see where a custom field is used? eg. in which specific projects and portfolio’s?

My tool Custom Field Explorer shows which project is using the field. 2 limitations: only works with fields in the library + does not show portfolios (yet).
