How do I separate a task due by a fix date vs any time before that date?

When I assign a task to other person. How do I separate a task due by a fix date vs any time before that date?
For example, I would like to have someone go pick up the mail on Wednesday. vs pick up the mail anytime from now to Wednesday. It does not make sense to use a time range from now until Wednesday. since it does not take a few days to pick up the mail.

Hi,

In that case you can use the due date as the last possible date to pick up, and somehow convey the info it can be done sooner. That could be done with a start date, a specific word or emoji in the task name, an info in the description, a custom field “Could be started on”…

@Jack_B you could make the “pick up the mail” task blocked by a “wake up Wednesday” task :joy:

There isn’t a way to explicitly differentiate between “due by” or “due on” using the Due Date field. However, as @Bastien_Siebman suggested, there are lots of ways to help clarify if a task has to be done on or before the set Due Date.
