Asana has loads of AI features, and I think Smart charts is one that is easily missed. A little easter egg if you will.
When you go to your project dashboard and click + Add chart , in the top right you will see:
Draft chart with Asana AI
An example
Click Draft to start typing your prompt.
This will allow you to create a chart using natural language. For example:
Display the amount of tasks by status in a donut chart.
Don’t include subtasks.
You can see it understands to:
- use a donut chart
- select to group by the status field
- filter not to show subtasks
As with all AI features, don’t forget to verify the output! The fact that you’ve given clear instructions doesn’t guarantee the output is good.
Another example
Display the average completion time of tasks over time.
Filter for the following:
- Don’t include subtasks.
- Only include my tasks
A note of caution
But now for the real challenge: What does this data mean?
It looks like I’m making progress, right? I’m completing tasks much quicker than I did before.
But what happens when I'm completing something that has been in my backlog for a long time, and I finally took the time to tackle it?
- As it measures time to completion, it can’t measure incomplete tasks. This is why - when completing an old task - my average completion time will shoot up.
Remember: Metrics without context are just numbers.
