Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the bug you’re experiencing:

When you add tags from the Workflow Builder it throws a generic error.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Create a workflow in Slack
  • Add a step to create a task in Asana
  • Add a tag to the task
  • Publish the workflow
  • Trigger the workflow
  • Slackbot will message you with the error forwarded from Asana: “There was a problem with the information the user provided.”

Browser version:
Version 122.0.6261.129 (Official Build) (arm64)

What version of Asana are you using (Personal, Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, Enterprise+, Premium, Business or legacy Enterprise)?
Asana Business

I’m using the Asana integration in Slack to try and build a workflow where tasks created in Slack can also be updated in Slack.

However, when using the “Update a task” workflow in Slack, I cannot get a dynamic task ID to work. In the “Task to update” field, I have tried using “Task name” and “Link to task” from a previous task creation step, however, both of these return a Slack workflow error. Either “Update a task – There was a problem with the information that the user provided.” for the former or “Update a task – The service used for this step isn’t available.” for the latter.

Is there a way to get Asana to update a task from a variable?

Hi @Oliver_Zhu, would you give more details of the Slack workflow?
I only know about /asana create, link, settings, and help commands in the Asana/Slack integration.
If you could share Asana API calls you are using, maybe I can help.

Thanks for getting back to me @Shun_Sakurai. I am using Slack’s Workflow Builder where there is an Asana integration. This is different to the slash commands you’re referring to.

I’m unsure what API calls the workflow integration is using behind the scenes, but I’ve attached a screenshot below of what it looks like. This can usually be found by going into an Slack channel’s settings and going to the Integrations tab and adding an automation.

@Alexandre_Laplante could you please confirm if you are using a variable or an existing tag in the Tags section? Thanks!

I was using a variable and I think I just confirmed that it only fails when the corresponding Tag doesn’t exist in Asana.

Hi @Alexandre_Laplante and @Oliver_Zhu, our product team had a closer look at this and the issue is related to the Slack Workflow Builder and not specifically to the Asana integration. In this case, we recommend reaching out to the Slack support team for further assistance:

Let us know if you have any other questions!
