Gantt View – Subtask List Truncated with "View All Subtasks" Link

Hi Asana team,

I’m experiencing an issue in Gantt view where subtask lists are being truncated mid-list with a “View All Subtasks” link, even though the subtasks are first-level and already added directly to the project. Clicking the link opens the task details drawer rather than expanding the subtasks inline on the Gantt.

This is happening on a project with parent tasks that each have ~20–28 first-level subtasks. The truncation makes it impossible to see the full schedule on the Gantt without opening each task individually, which defeats the purpose of the view.

Expected behavior: All first-level subtasks should be visible inline on the Gantt when expanded, with no arbitrary truncation limit.

Please advise if there’s a workaround or if this is a known limitation/bug.

Thank you!

Hi @Jeff_McCarron, welcome to the community!

Thanks for reporting this and for the detailed explanation!

I tested this on my end, and it looks like there is currently a limit of 20 first-level subtasks displayed inline in Gantt view. Once there are more than 20 subtasks, the remaining subtasks are accessible via “View All Subtasks,” which opens the task details pane.

So based on my testing, this appears to be the current behavior rather than a bug. I also couldn’t find this limitation documented in the Help Center.

Since viewing all subtasks directly in Gantt would be valuable for your use case, I will submit feedback to our Product Design Team. If you could also share this as Product Feedback, the team can consider improving this behavior in the future. Thanks again for flagging it!

So, what would the workaround be? Seems like this makes Gantt View unusable or the tradeoff is a very very populated 1st level task list. (Keeping in mind I’ve already used Sections).
