👉 Feature Request: Section Templates (Add pre-defined phases/sections to active projects)

Hey everyone! :waving_hand:

Project Templates are amazing, but they have a major limitation once a project is actually up and running: they are completely rigid.

In agency life, clients’ needs change mid-project. For example, a client with an active paid media project suddenly decides they want us to set up a CRM integration.

Depending on what CRM they use (HubSpot, RD Station, or Pipedrive), the step-by-step tasks and timeline are completely different.

Currently, our workarounds are terrible:

  1. Bloating the master template: We could add all CRM options to our master project template, but then active projects get cluttered with unused, dateless tasks that just get lost.
  2. The “Migration Nightmare”: I recently had to create a brand new project from a different template and manually migrate all active tasks from the original project to the new one. This manual process took me 1.5 hours of completely wasted time.
  3. Task Templates are too limited: Task templates only allow us to duplicate one single task. We can’t duplicate an entire structured phase/section with multiple tasks and relative due dates.

What we really need:
The ability to create and save Section Templates at the workspace/account level.

If a project is already running and a new phase pops up, I should be able to click “Add Section from Template,” choose my saved “HubSpot CRM Integration” section, and boom! Asana injects that entire section, complete with its pre-defined tasks, descriptions, and relative due dates, directly into the active project.

This would bridge the massive gap between Task Templates and Project Templates, saving us hours of manual restructuring.

Who else needs “Section Templates” to make running projects more flexible? Let’s get this voted up! :rocket:
