Expand Formula Field Functionality

Right now, formula fields are limited to dates and numbers. Unfortunately, this doesn’t solve for most of the needs we have for formulas. Ideally we’d be able to use formula fields for formatting text as well, or using it (similar to a Google Sheet or Excel formula) to extract certain information from a different field.

For example:

  • len() function to see how many characters are in a specific field - useful for creating headlines for blog articles
  • task type text & name text & channel text (example formatting for combining text from different fields) to create a uniform naming convention for different task types

I’ll add more ideas as they come to me. When I used Airtable at a different company, we had lots of functionality with their custom formula fields. I’m feeling a bit boxed in with Asana’s formula fields.

Also, it would be best if you limit each topic to a single feature request, not a general catch-all list, so each can be voted on independently. So make your additions in separate topics and split this if appropriate.
