Dropdown list of Subtask in Board view

Hello all,

I use Asana extensively at work and hold it in high regard—so much so that I recently decided to purchase a premium version for personal use. However, I’ve encountered an issue in my personal account that doesn’t occur in my work environment.

In Board view, I’m unable to see the dropdown list of subtasks. When I click the dropdown button, it only displays a “View all subtasks” hyperlink, which requires me to open each task individually to see its subtasks.

Here’s a screenshot to illustrate what I mean.
What I see in my work account :

Is this a result of recent changes to Asana, or is there something I might be missing in my setup?
I am currently on a trial period for my personal account and looking to upgrade once confirming.

Thanks in advance for your help!

That’s strange, I’ve never come across this. Not sure if it has to do with a Org/Workspace - that wouldn’t make sense.

Perhaps an A/B test?
@Forum-team, any insights you could provide?

Hi, @Eyuel_Gorfu1 .

Regarding your inquiry, what transpires upon clicking this ‘View all subtasks’?

It sounds like it opens the task details pane…

But I’m curious to see a screenshot
Perhaps if you click on this once, it persists for all tasks?

@Eyuel_Gorfu1 , your screenshots are cropped on the right. Are you sure there are no filters applied differently? (not that I can imagine a filter would impact this behaviour, to be honest)

When you select the “View all subtasks” link, it opens the edit box to the right. It is the same as selecting the parent task to edit, but goes straight to the subtasks. It is much less functional, as — like the OP, apparently — I expand the list in the board to show me the tasks/subtasks together. I do not want to have to individually check each task for its subs.

[I’m here searching for answers because I’m experiencing the same change (tho I have not made any changes to my subscription).]

Hello @Eyuel_Gorfu1 and everyone!

I’m looking into this further to see if any changes have occurred.

Thank you!

@Richard_Sather, I’m trying this again. This is from my Asana screen. (It used to dropdown in the task, where the “9 subtasks” are indicated.) Hope that helps.

Thank you for the clear materials.
It feels good when there are many subtasks.
Personally, as there has been a recent trend towards having more subtasks, they may prove to be quite useful.

Has anyone been able to resolve this issue In Board view, to reenable the ability to to see the dropdown list of subtasks when you click the dropdown button,

Yes. They aren’t very “GTD,” but I find them useful.

Not that I’ve seen and my boards continue in the way described & pictured above. I really hope they’ll revert it or make it a “feature” we can disable.

I am in total agreement. Revert the change and restore the functionality or at least provide the rationale behind the change. It is very frustrating with the additional click and ability to view the subtasks. Doubtful Dustin would want this to be more difficult for his user base.

I’m having the same issue and it’s driving me bonkers. REALLY DISLIKE this change, Asana. Might need to bail on being a customer :frowning:

The functionality has been reenabled and is now working properly. The application now shows the subtasks when clicking the down arrow without having the “View Subtasks” link appear. Thank you!

@Larry_Mills — It does not seem to be reenabled for me. Behavior in my desktop app is still only offering the “View all subtasks” button when I click the dropdown arrow. (I’m new to the forums. Is is believed that anyone from the app monitors these, or should I submit a ticket somewhere else?)

The functionality was disabled last week. This morning, June 30, I opened the app and the functionality had been reenabled and is now working properly. I do not know if anyone from Asana monitors the forum or if a ticket needs to be submitted.

Asana does monitor the forum. Phil Seeman is the forum leader.

Yes, you can see a post from an Asana Forum Moderator earlier in this thread:

And several of us Forum Leaders are monitoring and encouraging updates.

Thanks,

Yay! :tada: Thank you! (After I restarted my laptop, the app began behaving like the windows portal (Chrome) was already.) Very grateful.
