🔗 Dependency Updates: Smarter Autoshifting and Improved Settings

Hi Asana Community,

Today, I’m excited to share we’ve made several improvements to how dependencies work in Asana!

With this update, the autoshifting experience now gives you much more context to help you make informed decisions:

  • See how many days shifted: The autoshifting modal now shows the number of calendar days each task has shifted, so you can quickly understand the impact at a glance.

  • Toggle between date formats: Switch between relative dates (like “today”) and absolute dates (like “Feb 12”) — previously, only relative dates were available.

  • Side-by-side date comparison: Both current and proposed dates are now displayed together in the same view. No more clicking in and out of the modal to compare.

  • Clearing date warning: Trying to clear a date in a dependency chain? You’ll now see a helpful warning about the potential downstream impact, so you can avoid unintended changes.

  • Quick access to dependency settings: It’s now easier to navigate directly to your dependency settings from the autoshifting modal.

  • Improved Dependency Settings: Dependency settings have been consolidated and clarified into a single, easy-to-find location in the Project Settings. Previously scattered across multiple places, everything is now in one spot — making it simpler for project owners to set up and maintain dependency behavior.

As always, feel free to share your thoughts and feedback in the comments. We’d love to hear how these updates are working for you!

Yes, finally! :flexed_biceps:

Excellent!

@Emily_Roman , thanks for this update. I’m not sure what your 2nd screenshot is showing, though? Perhaps you mean to show an updated ‘Dependencies’ page of the Project settings model? I don’t see any changes in my Phoenix space, although I see the updated ‘Confirm changes’ modal.

@Emily_Roman - EXCELLENT news! Thanks so much to everyone for the updates!
