When I insert custom variables into a rule it stops working.
For example when I sent a rule to change the task description to the variables from the custom fields, it does not work.
But if i put something standard like “task name” the rule does work.
Any advice?
When you say “does not work”, can you be more specific?
Do you see a popup that the rule is running or no?
In the rule definition, does it show a “Last run” or no?
If you look at the activity history for a task where the rule should have run, do you see anything about the rule running?
I just tested and it worked fine for me using custom fields in a rule’s description, so I’m wondering if the rule is not running at all. (Are you sure you’re testing it on incomplete tasks, for example?)
Hi! Basically "does not work"means the pop on my screen saying that the rul is running shows up. However when the pop up goes away, the task description doesn’t change, and when I check activity it doesn’t show that it has run at all
If the popup says the rule is running but there’s no evidence of that in the task’s activity, then I’m stumped; I don’t see how that would be possible. You did check “All activity” and not just “Comments” when checking activity, right?
Yep! The description stays the same sadly, and it doesn’t show up in activity. I’ve reached out to asana support, hopefully they’ll know what’s up.
Yes, I think Support is the way to go here.
