The task details side panel is very inconvenient as it shifts the whole board and it distracts from work very much. Also it causes lag on lower-end hardware because of the animations. A small centered window on the foreground for details view would be much better in this case.
Kindly consider making this possible. It would be perfect if it was configurable in the settings.

Don’t forget to click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button; that’s the quickest and most effective way to express your support for a request.
Just FYI, many years ago the task detail pane used to work how you describe.
