Calculate custom field value

Hi
That’s not exaclty what you want, but if you multiselect the 5 tasks, then Asana automatically sums the custom fields on the window that opens on the right.

Not possible yet, the sum is the only available computation and only if you multi select. I did develop something called Mathana a few years back but it never made it to production

I would love to see this feature as well!

With the plugin we made it much easier to to calculate tasks and points for the list and a board view https://www.boostlabs.com/improve-your-teams-agile-process-in-asana/

The plugin is open sourced so you can tune that to your needs and calculate anything.
Bug reports and feature suggestions are welcome: https://github.com/vkorobov-boostlabs/asana-counter

We just obtained licenses for Asana Premium and we’d love this ability to calculate story points for Scrum velocity tracking.

Have a look at the Scrum section of The ultimate guide for doing things with Asana you might find help.

we are looking for the ability to do basic calculations (addition and multiplication) in Asana forms. Do you offer a solution?

Looking for custom fields with formulas based on other fields here, too. I just came into a company which is using Asana since years and I can’t apply even any basic project stuctures, like creating a fields which combines the values in two other fields into one, so we can use this combined field for sorting our tasks. It’s just not possible. I already checked the Scrum guide and also watched the university.

Please note that it should also be possible to convert “Dropdown” custom fields into numbers if the values are numeral strings. E.g. if we have a field called Complexity and we have options like 1, 1/2, 2, 40 then those should be convertible to numbers for the formula field. See how notion.so solved formula fields which I think can be applied 1-to-1 to Asana for reference:

Indeed does not exist. However the sum of custom fields when multi-selecting tasks is apparently coming (or already there).

If I need to select the tasks to see the sum, it doesn’t solve my use case. What I want is to be able to use this new field for sorting my tasks. Also, a sum isn’t enough, there should be more options and a formula is the most flexible solution there. But thanks for the info anyway!

Has there been any progress since October 2018? - I also need the possibility to - within a task - calculate a custom field value “C” out of two other custom fields “A” and “B”, accoring to a formula with variuous operators +, -, *, /

No change indeed, and no indication this is coming. Given the fact that Asana is currently focusing on Marketing teams, I would not expect such feature to come soon.

I really have no idea about programming effort in this area. - But from a simple user-perspective I am tempted to ask "How hard can it be to tell a system ValueOfFieldC = ValueOfFieldB * ValueOfFieldA ?"

I had subscribed to asana in the hope to finally have found a tool to help me identify the 10 most urgent tasks each week out of the 1.000 we have logged.
A custom field containig a simple calculation like [TaskImpact] / [RemaingDays] would already do the job.
I need to work with values and numbers and deadlines and filters and sort orders.
Colours, StickyNotes and Unicorns are not so important to me, though.

Has anyone here a suggestion for me? This really turns out to be a show stopper, I’m afraid.

In Asana2Go if would be easy to modify an existing output like Responsive list view, multi-column sorts, hide/show 21 columns, filter-as-you-type, and more: Asana2Go Interactive Tables ✨ to include a column that is the calculation result of other custom fields. Perhaps you know of someone to do this, or I’m available for custom work like this if of interest; private message me here or email via links given.

Well the computation is not that hard. But then you need to think about having it scaling and working for millions of people. Then there is the web interface to define the rules + display them. On Chrome. Firefox. Safari. iOS. Android. Update the guide. And suddenly a simple things just costs thousands of dollars

I would realllllly like this too.

Hi @Bodie @Alexander_Fischer @Cihat_Guenduez

The Reports by Screenful add-on for Asana can perform calculations based on Asana custom fields. We have a specific chart called Table chart, which allows you to combine data from any number of Asana projects, and make calculations on any of the custom fields on those projects. You can learn more from this blog post.

You can send me a direct message to book a slot for a live demo.

+1 for the ability to have custom field that performs math on other number fields

I’m having some real difficulty understanding how this is not a product feature. So many people use this for project management and for that you need to be able to calculate based on dependencies.
Is this expected in the product soon? Without the ability to calculate sums and differences and shift dates based on adjacent task results, this is really more like glorified stickie notes.

And yet millions are using Asana every day :grimacing: Asana does not communicate on the roadmap, we’ll have to wait!
