I created a template from a project with dates.
The dates, however, are based on “after the task is created” versus the due date at the top of the project.
What I’d like to do is change the due date at the top and then all of the tasks in the subtask will adjust based on that date.
I looked at some videos and read some things in the forum but I don’t have an option to select by due date.
Appreciate the help.
Hi @Gina_Peter1
Currently, Asana doesn’t automatically adjust all tasks and subtasks in a project template to align with a new overall project due date. Instead, dates in a template are set relative to when each task is created, rather than a top-level project deadline.
We understand this can be challenging, especially when managing timelines. As a workaround, you might manually adjust dates once the project is created from the template. Alternatively, using rules where possible may help streamline some date adjustments, though they might not fully address this need just yet.

Hi @Gina_Peter1,
FYI the Dynamic Duration workflow type in our Flowsana integration provides this capability - not in project templates themselves, but in projects created from a project template.
thank you for replying. It’s unfortunate this feature is not available. I’m setting dates by hand using a template already and it’s cumbersome when the relative dates are the same and you are repeating the process. I could be setting up a project in March, April, Nov, Dec and they all have the relative date length for each subtask.
I added a comment to the thread link you provided. Is that all I need to do to “vote” for it? TY again for your reply as I spend some time researching first and couldn’t find an answer.
thank you Phil for replying. I create projects with tasks. None of those tasks are dependent on eachother, they are dependent on the main due date. So if its due 11/30–all tasks would then populate. Can this be done with that tool?
Hi @Gina_Peter1,
When you say “the main due date” or “the due date at the top of the project”: are you referring to the due date of the first/top task in the project, or of the project due date itself (set in the Project Details)?
The main project due date: under the assignee, there is a due date–that’s the due date I was referring to. Not sure if this image will appear.
Since we’re veering off into some Flowsana-specific discussions, it would be best if you can send a message to our support queue and we can continue the discussion there. (Please link to this topic when you do; thanks!)
thank you for pointing this out, I voted for it.
