I’m hoping someone in the community can shed some light on a critical issue we’ve suddenly started facing.
Our team relies heavily on the attributable_to field within the time entries API and interface. Our entire professional services data analytics and reporting pipeline is built on the ability to attribute time logged to a specific project, which is often different from the project where the task sits (and sometimes the task is multi-homed!).
As of today, this field seems to have been completely removed from the time logging pop-up. When we go to add time to a task, we are now only presented with the Logger (the person entering the time), the Date, and the Time duration. The option to attribute this time to another project is gone.
Here is what the current interface looks like for us:
Yes I believe this is gone because Asana in releasing soon a bundle of features around time tracking and it will part of it. I am waiting on a confirmation.
We no longer have this feature as well. I contacted support about it. And after several days of waiting and sending screenshots and explanations, I was told that it was a beta feature that was rolled back. This is what they said:
“Thank you very much for your patience!
I have checked this further with our Engineering team and would like to inform you that unfortunately we have rolled back the attributable project feature on time tracking entries.
This means that customers cannot create time tracking entries that are attributable to the project, which also contributes to the entries not being exported. This is currently expected behaviour, although I can absolutely understand this is not the answer you were hoping for.
It is mentioned in the Help Center article that this is currently an experimental feature with limited availability. You may want to consider fetching the time tracking entries via API as well as outlined here.
There might be an opportunity in the future to bring back the attributable time tracking entries, but now we have rolled this back this feature.
I apologize for the inconvenience in this regard, but please feel free to let me know if there’s anything else I can assist you with and I’ll be happy to help! “
It is very frustrating. And then in the August 2025 release notes, I found this as a new feature:
(Advanced) Attribute tracked time to a project of record: Specify which project time entries should be attributed to for billing and accounting purposes, ensuring accurate financial tracking and reporting.
Except that feature is not available. And the link provided does not even mention this feature.
Frustrating. The API option isn’t even valid, either. I’m happy to whip up some software that could do this, but the API is just returning NULL for all the time entries that I know had projects associated with them.
@Wiktor_Jurek, Perhaps if the UI is not allowing the behavior, then neither is the API. But you best bet for an answer on that would be a new topic in English Forum > Developers & API (or perhaps contacting Support about that specifically).
Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I understand your frustration by the removal of project attribution on time entries, and I want to provide more context around this change.
We initially required all users to select an “Attributed project” for each time entry. While this added reporting value for some, we heard from many customers that it created unnecessary friction in daily workflows. After carefully reviewing all feedback, we decided to refine the experience:
For users with access to Resource Management (currently available for a select beta group): attributed time tracking remains in place, since it enables the advanced reporting and billing features that the new resource management features will provide.
For users without access to Resource Management: time tracking no longer requires project attribution. This restores the simpler workflow many customers preferred.
We know changes like this can feel disruptive, especially if you relied on the previous functionality. I have passed your feedback to our product team and they will consider it as they plan to launch the new resource management features which are coming soon in Asana.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or feedback, I’m only a DM away!
I would suggest removing it from the release note of August ( Asana Help Center ), as I’ve received multiple questions from clients already.
