I want to add a button to Asana to call my local app,
In a task where the buttons are at the top (for example uploading files or copying the link)
So I’ll click the button out of Asana and I’ll be able to do things in my local app
I think you’d need to write a Chrome extension (or similar) to effect a UI change, which may be discouraged by Asana because they can’t be responsible for changes that may break your extension’s ability to position your button. See the links here for writing an Asana Chrome extension, ignoring the OAuth focus:

I do not want to add a Chrome extension, I want to know how to do integration with Asana
I want to add a button similar to Harvest
I am looking for a legitimate way to integrate with Asana
At the present time, Asana does not have a way to integrate into its UI. They made a special arrangement with Harvest quite some time ago - that was special one-off case. At the moment, the only way to hook into the Asana UI is via a browser extension (which as Larry pointed out, is not officially supported and can potentially break if they change aspects of their UI).
@Phil_Seeman - I know this thread is 11 months old, but it is the most relevant to the situation I am experiencing. Here are the steps:
- Create a Task in Asana from within an existing project
- Fully describe the task in Task detail page/panel, including the addition of an Estimated Effort
- Start time entry with the Harvest extention/integration
Post Condition: The time has been entered correctly in Harvest and can be reported there, but there is no evidence of this time entry in the task details. I would ideally like to see the time entry in the “Actual Effort” field.
Please let me know if there is an integration step that I might have missed to make this post-condition possible.
Hi @anon21453908 and welcome to the forum!
I’m not personally familiar with the Harvest integration and its specific workings, sorry. The best thing to do is to post your question as a new topic in the #tipsandtricks forum section where the right people will see it (this section is geared for developers).
