Allow real projects to show on Client Portal Timeline (MUST HAVE for portal to be useful)

Sync client portal tasks with client-facing Asana projects (per project permission)

Right now, tasks created in the client portal are completely separate from tasks in client-facing Asana projects. This means any updates (due dates, assignees, descriptions, comments, etc.) have to be managed in two places, which creates a lot of manual work and increases the chance of inconsistencies.

Our team manages all internal work in Asana projects and then shares selected work with clients through the portal. It would be incredibly valuable if tasks created in the portal could stay synced with the same tasks in a client-facing project. So, milestones and tasks are actually real, not just portal facing nice visuals.

In practice, this would allow:

  • One source of truth for client-facing work (as needed)
  • Automatic updates across both views
  • Less manual duplication when managing client deliverables

A two-way sync between portal tasks and project tasks would make the client portal much more practical for teams managing client work at scale.

We can even “add” project to client portal option (seems easy), or home the tasks in two locations.

Wow, I didn’t realize they were so separate. I thought client tasks would appear on our end in the typical project as a normal task but assigned to the client..

So, even though they are fully separated, you can use Claude to find the “project” in the client portal, because it turns it that it has a secret project in the backend. All you have to do to find it is add a test task in the portal, then get the link to that task and Claude (or GPT) will find the ID of the project. With that, you can add that secret project as a second home for all the tasks in the regular projects.

Makes sense? Definitely a workaround for now, but allows the client to get the updated projects.
