AI Teammates: capabilities and customization

  1. What are AI Teammates, and how customizable are they?
AI Teammates are Asana’s built-in AI agents. There are 30+ prebuilt Teammates, and they can also be customized by changing their behavior, skills, guidance, attachments and connected tools. You can create a custom Teammate by describing the role and work you want it to perform.

  2. Can AI Teammates learn how our team works?
Yes. You can provide guidance, documents and other artifacts, and feedback helps the Teammate build shared memory. The export indicates that this memory is scoped to the relevant workspace and can be reviewed, adjusted or cleared.

  3. Can AI Teammates edit and manage tasks?
Yes, provided they have the appropriate access. They can perform work such as editing tasks and providing status updates. The export also notes that Teammates only work in projects they have been given access to.

  4. Can an AI Teammate work across an entire organization or multiple projects?
AI Teammates must be given access to projects in order to work in them. They do not automatically have organization-wide access. The same role can be used across multiple projects or brands, but access is controlled by the projects and permissions assigned to the Teammate.

  5. Can users change a Teammate’s configuration or behavior?
Only Editors or Admins can modify a Teammate’s configuration and criteria. Users can trigger and work with a Teammate without being able to change its setup (see this Help Center article for more info!).

  6. Can Teammates generate reports or recurring status updates?
Yes. AI Teammates can generate status updates on a chosen frequency and can pull together project or portfolio information for reporting. They cannot currently create charts or dashboards directly.

  7. Can AI Teammates create dashboards or charts?
Not directly. They can pull project or portfolio data and synthesize it into reports or summaries, but dashboard and chart creation was described as a current limitation.

  8. Can AI Teammates be used by individuals or very small teams?
Yes. AI Teammates are customizable, so individuals and small teams can create or adapt one to fit their own workflows even when no prebuilt Teammate matches their role.

Pricing, requests, credits and usage

  1. How are AI Teammates, Dash and AI Studio usage measured?
AI Teammates and Asana Dash use AI Requests, while AI Studio uses AI Credits. These are separate usage metrics with separate tracking and allotments.

  2. What counts as an AI Request?
A request is described as a successful unit of work completed by Asana. The export states that organizations are charged for requests that result in successful task execution or substantive data generation. Simple conversational use of Dash can be free, while more complex actions such as assigning work can consume requests.

  3. Are AI Requests pooled per user or across the organization?
Usage is pooled at the account or organization level rather than being a hard cap for each individual user. The webinar also said admins can restrict which users can access AI Teammates.

  4. Can organizations control who uses AI Requests?
Admins can restrict individual users’ access to AI Teammates. Enterprise and Enterprise+ plans can set AI Requests off by default for new users.

  5. How can admins monitor and control AI usage?
The Admin Console includes an AI Usage Dashboard showing usage, remaining balance and breakdowns by Teammate and user.

  6. Does using Dash always consume a request?
No. Activities such as asking Dash questions, getting help with prioritization, and similar conversational use can be performed without consuming requests. More complex actions, such as assigning work to Dash, can use requests.

  7. Do AI Teammates and AI Studio share the same credit pool?
No. AI Teammate/Dash requests and AI Studio credits are separate metrics with separate usage tracking.

  8. Where can an organization find its pricing and plan details?
You can find more information about pricing and plan details here. Also, an organization’s current plan can be viewed under Profile > About my organization > Billing.

Access, permissions, memory and governance

  1. Who can access AI Teammates and Dash?
AI Teammates are available to users once the feature is rolled out, not only to admins. However, administrators can control access, and an individual may see that they do not have access if AI has not been enabled for their organization or account.

  2. Why might an Enterprise user see that they do not have access to AI Teammates?
Admins can disable AI globally and control AI access. Users who cannot access Teammates should check with their organization’s Asana admin.

  3. Can AI Teammates bypass project permissions?
No. Users cannot use a Teammate to access information from projects they themselves do not have permission to view. Teammate access is also controlled by the projects and permissions assigned to it.

  4. How does Teammate memory work across projects and teams?
Shared memory built from interactions and feedback, while access remains controlled by project permissions. It also states that Teammate memory is scoped to the relevant workspace rather than shared across different customers or workspaces.

  5. Can Teammate memory be reviewed, edited or reset?
Yes. Memories can be viewed on the Teammate profile and adjusted. Specific memories or all memories can also be cleared.

  6. Can AI features be disabled while keeping other Asana functionality?
Yes. Admins can disable AI Teammates and Dash while keeping AI Studio and certain other AI functionality enabled. Just note that at least one AI provider needs to remain enabled for Asana AI features to operate.

Asana Dash

  1. What is Asana Dash and where can it be accessed?
Dash is Asana’s conversational AI experience. Itt can appear as a primary chat experience, a docked chat while viewing work, or a fullscreen chat, depending on the organization’s setup.

  2. Can Dash analyze information outside Asana?
Yes. Dash can access external applications that the individual user authenticates through the integration settings. The webinar specifically discussed using external files and connected applications as additional sources of information.

AI Studio, automations and workflows

  1. What is the difference between AI Studio and AI Teammates?
AI Studio determines what needs to happen and routes the work, while AI Teammates perform the work.
  2. Can Dash or AI Teammates create automations?
Yes. Both Dash and AI Teammates can create automations in projects.

Integrations and external tools

  1. Which external tools can connect with Asana AI?
External tools include: Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, Outlook/Microsoft, Zendesk, Jira, Salesforce (via custom MCP), and others. Additional tools can be connected using custom MCP apps. Availability and capabilities vary by integration. More information can be found in the Asana AI FAQ.

  2. Can AI Teammates and Dash use Google Drive?
Yes. Google Drive is supported and Dash can read, create and edit Google Docs and connect that work back to Asana.

Other questions

  1. Has Asana expanded their HIPAA compliance option to the basic/starter plans?
Not at this time. HIPAA is still only available for Enterprise+. You can check Asana features and on which pricing tier they’re available here

  2. Did you also include non-profits in the beta testing?
Yes! Nonprofits often run lean — small teams carrying a lot of operational weight, with limited bandwidth for the coordination and reporting overhead that takes time away from mission-driven work. That’s exactly where AI Teammates can help. While we don’t have a specifically nonprofit set of AI Teammates, there are the essential cross cutting AI Teamamtes that work across all personas and industries.

  3. How would this function if Asana is used to manage work/projects with multiple brands and disciplines?
Teammates only work in the projects they’re explicitly added to, and access always follows the intersection of the Teammate’s permissions and the triggering user’s — so a brand’s or team’s Teammate can’t touch another brand’s work unless you deliberately grant that access. Each Teammate also builds its own private memory, so you can run the same role (e.g., Campaign Coordinator) separately per brand without them crossing wires, or use one shared Teammate at the org level for cross-brand reporting when that’s actually what you want.

  4. What resources are available to support onboarding teams to agentic workflows/ AI teammates?
There are AWM specific courses in Asana Academy!

  5. Is there a written out version of the instructions for how to use each AI product?
Yes, you can find a list of AI features and additional information on them here.

Thanks again to everyone who joined and shared thoughtful questions. Have a follow-up question about any of these topics, or a use case you would like us to explore? Add it below!
