Add Comment Reply Threads to Attached Files

The new comment threads have been very helpful and are a great improvement to Asana. Being able to reply directly to a specific comment makes conversations much easier to follow and keeps feedback organized.

As a next step, it would be extremely helpful to extend the Reply feature to file attachments within a task as well.

Many users drag files directly into a task rather than attaching them to a specific comment. These files appear in the task as attachments, but there’s currently no way to reply directly to an individual file.

This would be especially valuable when reviewing designs, photos, documents, or other creative assets, where feedback often relates to a specific file. Being able to select Reply on an attachment and start a thread tied to that file would make it much clearer which asset the feedback refers to and reduce confusion when multiple files are being reviewed.

It would be a natural extension of the new comment threading functionality and make file-based review and collaboration much more effective. I mocked it up below.

@Erjon_Metohu - I agree this would be useful. In the meantime, for what it’s worth, we also like to use Asana’s native “proofing” feature for image and PDFs as well. It’s pretty handy.

@Skyler I use the proofing feature from time to time, but replying directly to an image thread would be more convenient. Sometimes I just have a question about a file, and I don’t want that to create a subtask for a question. Proofing also creates a subtask for every piece of feedback, which can make people feel that every comment requires an edit.

@Erjon_Metohu - Yep. I totally agree. I wish there were an option to either add a comment or create a subtask depending on the situation.
