With the recent update to mark projects as not only On Track, At Risk, Off Track, and Complete, it is necessary to add an option for Cancelled. When a project gets cancelled we have to create a workaround process to archive, but there is no status to show that the project is Cancelled. Requesting that this be added as an option for project status updates.
Technically, your status Title would be CANCELLED and the Status at the time of cancellation would be the traffic lights.
Hi @anon2489878, thanks for providing this feedback!
While this feature isnāt available right now, hopefully itās something our Product team can implement in the future.
Iāll keep you posted and let you know if we have any updates
Can we add āCancelledā to the status list to update projects. I do not just want to archive them and lose visibility as need to include in reporting and Cancelled is different to āOn Holdā and āOff Trackā.
I believe this is the thread you are looking for https://forum.asana.com/t/mark-projects-as-cancelled/161278
Hey do you mean you would update the title to CANCELLED? - I donāt think this is enough.
It is indeed.. do you know if there will be any work on it as looks like there has been no updates and surely adding an extra status should be fairly simple to do?
This is very rarely about simple or hard, but itās all about keeping the tool simple to use
I have no idea sorry.
I share the same frustration.
Iām maintaining a Portfolio of 56 projects and some of them were cancelled, after being āOn Holdā for several months as the priorization and focus changed.
Within our reporting we need to know all the different status of the projects and these projects should be identidied.
Yes, adding in the tile āCancelledā is a workaround but that messes with the KPIs of the Progress Dashboard.
Hi there, my team is wondering the same thing. Although cancellation is not the goal, it is possible. Also, with the new option of company goals, the completion of projects is an update feature. With this in mind, my team is running into the issue of making a work-around process to ācancelā a project. A cancellation feature will help us manage our company goals, as well as team goals. I hope this feature comes available!
Can we add āCanceledā to the project status drop-down options? Some projects get started but then are canceled. Itās technically not complete since there werenāt any deliverables, but I also donāt want it counting toward my project dashboard and reports.
Welcome to the Asana Community Forum @Caitlyn_Kostecki
Thank you for sharing your feedback! I have merged your request into an existing thread. Donāt forget upvoting
Hi there! Is there an update on this ask? I like to know if adding ācanceledā to the project status options is going to be available shortly.
Considering this thread only has 22 votes and is a few months old, while threads that are five years old with over a thousand votes have yet to be addressedā¦I donāt like our chances of seeing this feature anytime soon unfortunately. Fingers crossed Iām wrong!
Rebecca, whatās the status of this ask? Seems like a lot of people would benefit from this feature. Right now, I have PMs not assigning a status until movement is made and just in case the project gets canceled. I have projects that were assigned a status and once you have assigned a status, you canāt remove that status. Iām trying to think of a work around so any advice would be appreciated.
Posting here again to see if there has been any movement on allowing āCancelledā to be an option for project status.
I am in agreement with this need and glad it has visibility at the moment. Our project management arm is running into this issue frequently as well. Especially with the reporting available on portfolios in general. Since there is no way to make sections on Portfolios either (another needed feature) it is difficult to separate out reporting on projects that were canceled so that data on the overall program is accurate. Canceled projects still occurred and may contain vital information for a program, but dashboards need an easy way of not considering them for reporting purposes (ācanceledā status being the best and most useful way of doing so).
I am new to the forum but just want to echo the need for a Project Cancelled option in Status updates. Is there any update on this?
I will share that I have a current work around. We have a global field added to the portfolio the projects are in called something like āProject True statusā or āProgrammatic Statusā. Itās a drop down that includes things like: āawaiting assignmentā, āassignedā, āduplicateā, āPassed to another teamā, āmonitoringā, āin progressā, ācompletedā, and ācanceledā. Since this is a global field, all dashboards/charts that reference a project in that portfolio can be filtered by these manual statuses in order to make sure we are tracking only specific and accurate projects in flight. Things like āduplicateā and ācanceledā would be paired with Asanaās project status field of ācompletedā but would not be referenced in analytics charts.
Hi. Apologies, new here.
My suggestion is to add a ācancelledā project status tag to along with the complete, on hold etc tags. As not all projects are completed and for the historic record it becomes difficult track.
It would also be good to see ācancelledā as an option next to the complete button for tasks to be able to track tasks in this manner .
Sorry if Iāve put this in the wrong place. Thanks.
