Filtering using a multi-select fields can already be done in the Board view but it would also be beneficial to sort tasks in the same manner in the List view where more section can be in view.
Welcome to the Asana Forum
This is actually already possible in List view see attached screenshot.

Thanks @Rosario_Messina! While it does appear to have the capability allowing the user to chose a multi-select field in the List view, it does not return any filtered results (see attached). It currently throws the wrong error message (too many tasks) but it’s meant to through an error that it’s not currently a function in List view. I wrote into Support about this specific issue and they confirmed it’s a limitation in the product at this time and encouraged me to leave a post here.
I see Justin, thanks for the additional context and in Board view, you don’t get that error? Would you be able to share a screenshot of that view?
Hi @Justin_Wildung,
Thanks for sharing. This is interesting indeed. First time I have personally seen this working on the Board but not on the List view.
Is your project maybe having too many tasks under a section or no section at all? From the Dashboard, you will be able to check the total amount of tasks in the project.
If that’s the case, please look at this thread and see if the issue described might fit with your specific project. If that’s the case, it seems to be a software limitation, and the workaround seems to be splitting the project to reduce the amount of data in it. Asana is aware of it and probably will be solved at some point in the future.
Does this help?
Cheers,
Rosario
@Rosario_Messina Brilliant! You were correct. The project had just over 1,100 tasks (most of which were completed) so I deleted some of the oldest ones that we no longer need and the filtering now works. Thank you!
Glad it worked!
