Ability to create and assign tasks from Google Docs by highlighting text

A lot of teams use Google Docs for weekly standups or meetings and have an “Action Items” section with a list of next steps. Would love the option to highlight text within the Google Doc and seamlessly create an Asana task and assign it to the right person.

The Chrome extension only creates a task with the Google doc’s title as a task which is not helpful for this use case and makes creating a task from Google Docs very manual.

The 2017 forum thread that had over 100 comments and +1’s was unfortunately closed/locked without full resolution so I’m reopening it here. They claim that the extension allows people to “seamlessly create tasks from any webpage” but without the highlighting functionality, it is not seamless.

Hi @Vivs,

I take it you meant this as a feature request, so I took the liberty to move from Tips and Tricks to Product Feedback

This means you can now vote for this feedback to be implemented, like I have.

+1.

@Jan-Rienk , can you actually please re-open the 2017 forum request that Vivan linked? It has not been resolved and has been incorreclty closed. We’re losing over 100 comments and votes, making this seem like a new request versus a request from hundreds of customers over the past 8 years.

Tagging @Emily_Roman here again to please re-open the 2017 thread that was closed without resolution: Ability to create and assign tasks from Google Docs

Hi @Brian_Nguyen,

Thank you for raising this.

I’m leaving this with the @Forum-team, as we Forum Leaders are volunteers and therefore have no direct insight into what has and hasn’t been fully released, and have no direct communication lines to the product team.

Thanks for flagging @Vivs! I just reopened the topic: Ability to create and assign tasks from Google Docs

We don’t have immediate plans to launch this feature but you can try leveraging the Asana Chrome extension in the meantime. We will make sure to comment on the thread once we have any updates!
