Team Members custom fields no longer allow selecting Project Roles

Hello,

I noticed a change in behavior regarding Team Members custom fields. Previously, I created People custom fields in the Team > Members tab (e.g. “360° PM”, “Growth Marketing”), and those fields were available to reuse in projects. They also allowed me to create/select project roles directly from the field. Now, I only see “Invite teammates via email” and no longer have the option to create/select roles. Has this behavior changed, or is this a feature flag/setting?

Thank you for the help,

Cécile

Hi @Cecile_Langromme, welcome to the community!

Just to clarify, are you referring to People custom fields or Project Roles? I don’t believe standard People custom fields have supported creating or selecting project roles directly, so I’d like to make sure we’re talking about the same feature.

Hi @Irish_Makimura

Thanks for your reply!

I’m referring to People custom fields created from the Team > Members section.

Previously, when I created a People custom field there (for example, “360° PM” or “Growth Marketing”), it became available to reuse in projects. From that field, I could also create or select Project Roles, which made it easy to assign tasks based on roles rather than individuals.

Now, when I create a People custom field, I only see the option to “Invite teammates via email”, and I no longer have the ability to create or select Project Roles.

Was this functionality changed recently, or could this be related to a feature flag, workspace setting, or rollout?

Thanks!

Hi @Cecile_Langromme

Thanks for clarifying!

People custom fields haven’t supported creating or selecting Project Roles directly. Project Roles are configured separately (typically in project templates) and are used as placeholders that can be assigned to teammates when a project is created.

If you’re now seeing only “Invite teammates via email” when editing a People custom field, that’s expected behavior for a People field. If you previously saw Project Roles in that workflow, I’d be curious to learn more. If you have a screenshot or remember the exact steps, that would help determine whether it was a different feature or an early-access (Beta) experience.
