Project Schedule settings: add more business day options or more flexibility in choosing custom weekends

The recently added ‘Project settings’ within the Customize button, has a new ‘Work days’ selection which has replaced the former ‘Weekend awareness’ option within the Dependency management options menu.

I have elaborated on this change and its impact of having limited options here.

Perhaps a solution would be to add more selections for work days, such as a ‘Sunday-Thursday’ week option (which is observed in several countries in the GCC and Africa). Or better yet, simply using check boxes (as per the date selection UI when setting recurring tasks on weekdays), as so:

Such an option would allow complete flexibility for every user in any country.

As a first-hand example, in my past career as an Architect, I worked for a contractor on a mega construction project in the GCC where our ‘weekends’ were only one day a week, on Fridays!

It appears that your suggestion has been implemented and a custom option is available for setting work days as you wish.

Personally as an admin I am missing a feature that enables me to globally set our company’s working days to our specifications. Without a custom global setting, the starting point of each project is already incorrect and the responsibility to set the days correctly for every single project is left in the hands of the users which makes it useless as we all know that most users do not like to think to much especially about these kinds of settings.

Asana by default thinks their entire user base is American or European and that everybody works on Mon-Fri, just as they do not adapt the platform for the 500 million people that type in RTL languages.

Hi @Itay_Kurgan , indeed! I noticed this the other day whilst training a client but I forgot to check it out later. It definitely addresses the SLA issue for time spent in sections/custom fields etc and it works with task dependencies and task duration in the same project’s Timeline, Gantt or Calendar views. However, visually, weekends are still displayed as defined by the user’s Settings>Display settings which are still a bit limited to just ‘conventional’ 2-day weekends - this is a bit unfortunate as a user cannot visually see non-working dates in these project views - I’ve created a new English Forum > Product Feedback for this, here.

I agree with you that this could definitely be a global setting for the company. Would you like to create a new topic in the English Forum > Product Feedback category, @Itay_Kurgan ?
