Is there a way to overwrite an existing template if there are updates on a current project that you want to save as the same name?

To answer you question, no, not exactly. But you can save any project as a template and name it the same as the original template as long as you rename the original one beforehand, eg. “Product Launch [Backup]” so you don’t confuse the two (because you can actually have more than one templates with exactly the same name).
Of course you could delete the original template as long as everyone on your Team agrees to use the new one that you created.
