I’d like to use the Gmail Asana plugin to create Asana Tasks but it always prefills Project with the same incorrect value. How do I clear this so it never assigns a Project and allows me to do that?
I’ve run into this too and I know it’s annoying when the Gmail add-on keeps picking the wrong project. A few quick things I’d try in this order:
-
In the Gmail add-on panel, click into Project and remove the selected project with the X, then leave it blank and create the task. The add-on usually remembers your last selection, so creating one task with no project set should stop it from auto-assigning next time.
-
If it keeps repopulating, pick the correct project once, create the task, then try removing it again on the next task. This can “reset” what it remembers.
-
Sign out of the Asana add-on in Gmail, then sign back in. You can do this from the add-on panel menu.
-
Remove the Asana for Gmail add-on from Gmail and reinstall it to clear any cached defaults.
-
Double check there isn’t a browser extension or separate automation duplicating the behavior. Rules inside a project can’t pull tasks into a project on their own, so this is more likely the add-on’s remembered state.
Workaround tip: even if a project gets prefilled, you can remove it before you hit Create, or quickly multi-home/move the task after it’s created.
