Hide sidebar items

Currently 2/3 of the items on the Left Side I do not use and they take up more than half of the space.

I only need: Home View, My Tasks, and Teams

I dont need: Inbox, Reporting, Portfolio, Goals, Saved Searches, Invite, Help

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us, @Ashley_Dadaglio! We already have a thread on this topic so I’ve gone ahead and merge your post with Hide sidebar items to consolidate feedback. We will let you know if we have any news about this feature.

You send me an email (bastien@ido-clarity.com) and we discuss the details  basically that means having you install a Chrome extension and me giving you some code to install.

@Ashley_Dadaglio the same goes for you

adding my voice to “please allow easy customization of left sidebar” as it’s very inefficient in its current state. Would prefer not to hack.

Admin–can you give us an update? Are we just shouting into the void or is there any intent to fix this? Or is management waiting to see if this really causes people to leave?

@Gila_Halleli this is not really how Asana operates. They listen to feedback while not communicating on the roadmap. They weigh pros and cons using various criteria, the forum being one of them.

I’d like to be able to hide from the left bar menu the quick access that I do not use often such us “Goals” and “Reporting”

I’d also like to be able to hide: “Invite teammates” and “Help and getting started”

But if it’s not possible that I’d say that a good solution will be to be able to give more room to the favorites list by moving up the line that separates the main section to the rest:

In addition I’d like to organize in “folder” my Favorites.

Hope I was clear

Quite understandably Asana will probably never do that as this is a possible upsell to the higher plans

The only way to hide things is to use a Chrome extension like stylebot to write custom CSS code to hide specific part of the interface. I can help if needed, let me know.

Hi @María_Laura_Granile, welcome to the Asana Community Forum

Thanks for this feedback! We do have an existing thread for this feature request in the #productfeedback category so I’ve gone ahead and merged your post with the existing one to consolidate feedback.

I’ll keep you posted and let you know if I have any updates

I can totally understand that is not “possible” that’s why I said that a good solution will be not remove or hide just only make shorter the list by giving less space:

Thanks!
Will be great have at least the option for adjusting the menu.

Yes! The admins have been adding ourselves to teams of funded projects so that we can support them as they’re configuring Asana. This causes our sidebar to be extremely cluttered and makes it difficult to find the projects that we actually use on a daily basis. This may also be true for staff who have lighter roles on a project team but need to stay informed. The way it is now assumes that you heavily contribute to every Asana team you’re a part of when that’s not the reality for a lot of people.

You should consider relying more on search or build yourself a portfolio or use Favorites.
I never ever use the sidebar to navigate to a project.

Fair enough, still does not make up for poor menu design. For example, the side bar menu width is hard coded to 240px in CSS, that is really bad on 4K monitors. The fact we have to use CSS extensions to override basic UI speaks a lot! No progress has been made in years.

Annoying. There is not a lot of real estate…this isn’t something you need to create it is something you created and need to deactivate.
Please treat your paying customers with respect, there are too many buttons trying to sell us to the next level.

Has this feature been adde? The ability to customize the sidebar? I’m a new Asana user and this is one of the first things I am trying to do as well. I would rather see projects than portfolio, as portfolio is an option I don’t even have access to with my membership type.

@Amy_Barthel this is not the case yet and the new sidebar redesign does not have it either. (it has a “starred” section including favorite project and searches)

“Those items take up so much space that its hard for me to see my projects list on my small screen laptop.” Another situation is that as many of us get older, our vision gets worse. We have to increase the size of all the fonts, etc. That leaves a tiny window to scroll through projects. It’s more frustrating since the top of the sidebar has upgrade features that I don’t subscribe to hard-wired in.

Hi everyone, I’m excited to announce we just launched a new Sidebar to all customers!

With this update, you can now collapse the Insights section and hide Reporting, Portfolio and Goals.

I’m closing this thread but if you have any questions, please reach out to us via the Tips and Tricks category!
