💡 Conversations have nothing to do with comments

Hi ,

If you are just starting with Asana, you might confuse the word « Conversations » in the interface with the « comments ».

When you use the advanced search, the last tab says « Conversations ».
When you open the member notification settings of a project, there are checkboxes related to « Conversations ».

Conversations is a dedicated feature that has nothing to do with comments on tasks. Each project and team have a conversation tab at the top (sometimes in the « More » menu). Also conversations do have comments themselves :slightly_smiling_face:

So the advanced search option is about looking specifically inside Conversations (the regular search looks into comments). And the notification settings are about getting notified about a new conversation (not the following comments, unless you opted in).

Still confused? Comment below!

Not confused, but wish it was possible to search for specific comments and filter based on comments by specific people, date(s), with specific user ‘@’ mentions, or in specific projects.

Hi @Bastien_Siebman,

Thank you for creating this good reference task!

I’m happy now that there’s Messages instead of Conversation. Messages is less confusing with Comments than Conversation was.

It’s great to have two channels for two types of communication, and everything can beautifully fits in Asana

  • Task comments for communication related to tasks
  • Messages for communication not related to tasks, or communication related to project(s), team(s), or any combination of members
