Add ability to "lock" a project view or prevent editors from saving it.

I work on several large projects (30+ editors) that track large numbers of tasks (300+), with a variety of preconfigured views. As the only way to have filters persist after a page refresh etc. is for editors is to hit “Save View”, many users have gotten into the habit of clicking this with every change they make (thereby changing the view for everyone using the project) and inevitably people either forget to change them back or forget what the original field settings were. This naturally creates problems for other users across the team, and is an annoying waste of time having to continually restore the original views.

There have been similar requests to add user-specific views which would go some way to help with this (by having a general management policy of “don’t save the view for everyone” - better but still fallible), but separate to this I’d like to request a simple option to “lock” a view and prevent it being saved over by anyone who is not a Project Admin. This could either be a per-view setting or a single project-wide one.

I like the idea. Voted.

Hi @Dave_T , this is currently available on the Enterprise plans.

In the project actions drop-down menu (on the right of the project title, next to the star) and choose ‘Manage project permissions’ and set the first setting (Who can modify this project’s workflow and appearance?) to Project Admins only.

This disables any Editor from changing/saving any view tabs and also locks them out from the Customize menu, too!

Thanks for that, Richard - I can confirm that this is what I was looking for. Until recently we were on the legacy version of Enterprise licensing which didn’t have that available so assumed that this also wasn’t the case in Enterprise. Mea culpa.

That’s strange. I’m fairly certain this was available on all Enterprise tiers, when it launched.
