Please return .md in query string when .md files are attached

The organization I work for is currently evaluating replacing Wrike with Asana. I was surprised to see that when clicking a link to view an .md file attached to a task, Asana doesn’t render that as Markdown… until I read some of the decade-long threads requesting full Markdown support.

I didn’t read every comment of every Markdown thread (who has time for that?), but I’ve read enough to know that despite the customer demand, actually rendering .md attachments as markdown is unlikely to happen before I retire.

As other customers have pointed out, any organization leveraging AI is generating and working with a lot of .md files in 2026. The lack of markdown support will definitely be seen as negative by our development teams. As some of your existing (or prior?) customers have mentioned, many of your competitors have much better markdown support.

While it would be great in Asama natively rendered attached .md files as markdown, what I’m requesting is even easier.

If someone wants an attached .md files to render as markdown, they can do this today by installing a Chrome extension like https://md-reader.github.io/ and adding &.md to the end of the query string (before the #= ).

That’s all it takes to view the file as Markdown!

While our development teams will have no problem doing this, it is unlikely our marketing teams will. They will take one look at the raw markdown and close the file. We can force them to install a Chrome extension, but to make this work we need something to tell Chrome that the file being returned directly to the browser was originally a .md file. There are other ways to do this, but adding &.md is the easiest.

@Kevin_Reynen, and @Forum-team

Great idea! I see the extension has 100k users and 4.7 stars. I installed the free version in seconds and intend to pay the $10/year to support them.

Forum Team: Could you pass along to the product team? Anything that can be done in Asana to support AI and Markdown better would be very welcome.

Thanks,

Larry
