Advance Formula field returning $ rather then %

When attempting to create a formula field by taking $ values and determining % discount the formula is returning a $ value instead of a % value .

Bump, this would be nice to have a function to change the format of the value similar to how the number field allows you to pick the formatting.

Hi @Christopher_Tormey , welcome to the forum

I appreciate your frustration, I also wish we could format the result of formula fields as you can with spreadsheets.

Until this is available, I would consider removing any currency formatting from your number fields such as ‘Total Before Discount’ and instead append a ($) at the end of the field’s title. e.g. ‘Total Before Discount ($)’, similarly as you have already done for your ‘IT Discount’ and ‘Sales Discount’ fields in which you have appended ‘%’ on the end of their field titles.

With this approach, users will be made aware of the field’s formatting within the field’s titles. Yes, not ideal but at least it removes any confusing results such as in your case where a percentage is displayed in currency.

Great to see this is now tagged as ‘In development’ :star_struck:

Can’t wait.. let’s go team Asana :asana:

When trying to calculate expected costs by having a formula field with this value: {Estimated time} /60*65 (which is the hourly rate), the answer shown is in hours and minutes. There is no option to choose a different unit, euros (€) having my preference but just a plain number (integer) is also okay.

Adding a new column with the hourly rate will fix this, but it forces me to fill it in for every task. The hourly rate is constant for the project.

Hi @Niek , welcome to the forum :waving_hand:

I would also love this and waiting patiently for the ability to format the output of formula fields.
Good news though, it seems like this is under development:

and so is this:

Would you like me to merge your thread into the 2nd one perhaps, as it appears to be a similar request?

Hi Richard, thanks!
That’s indeed a similar request, can you merge them? Thanks!

Done! :+1:

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback and advocating for this update!

I’m excited to announce we’re bringing unit formatting to formula custom fields, just like you have with number custom fields :tada:

With this update, we’re replacing the Advanced tab with the Formatting tab, ensuring a more streamlined experience with ample space for formatting.

I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out via the English Forum > Tips and Tricks category if you have any questions!
