I had created a Project Template which had an option to create a new task from a Task Template whenever a Field Selection is Made. See attached screenshot for details. However, I wanted to make change to that rule and now when I edit that Rule, the option to create a new task from a task template no longer exists. So, instead of being able to select “Create a Task from a Task Template”, I just have the option to just name a task. Has Asana removed that option to create a task automatically from a task template?
You seem to be using the “old” rule-builder. Could you try again with a new rule?
I don’t think it has to do with the classic or new rule builder. It’s just not currently possible, and it never was. You can vote for it here, though:
That’s quite strange. Because I have the rule set up to create a new task from a Template and I have been using that on all of my projects in the past. Had been using it for more than 2 years now. Thanks though. I will explore other options I suppose.
What your above screenshot shows is the “Create a task” rule action, which is still available. But that has nothing to do with a task template; there’s no task template involved in that screenshot or that rule action.
Yes, @Phil_Seeman is right.
@umbrellaholdings, what you essentially had done was to ‘rebuild’ your task template within the ‘create task’ action, which is common practice and a workaround to having a rule create ‘task templates’.
However, I would recommend not having both (a rule and an actual task template), as that would result in having to maintain two versions of the same ‘task template’.
