Visual distinction between private and team shared projects

I’d like to be able to spot whether a project is shared with a team or not.

A project can be shared in 3 ways

  • Organisation
  • Team only
  • Private to members

When a project is private to members this is indicated with a :lock: on the project icon when viewing the team or portfolio.

Until recently, this was a handy visual indication to see which projects weren’t shared with the team. When I spotted this I’d urge people to share their project with the team, as we default to Team only since this enables us to easily manage access at the team level.

Recently something changed, that made Team only something that can be selected at or after creation, but it will convert to Private to members and add the team as one of the members.

This means both team shared and private projects get the :lock: icon, which makes it impossible to quickly spot which projects are actually only private to members on a team/portfolio level.

What is the deal with the new lock icon on every single project? Before today, it only showed the lock icon on a project if you had it locked to your own view specifically. All these projects are shared with our entire team/staff and suddenly have this dumb icon.

Hi @Prairie_Smallwood, thanks for sharing your feedback with us! I’m investigating this further and I hope to have an update about this soon. Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime

@Prairie_Smallwood @Emily_Roman

I merged this as I think it is the same subject/issue.

PS: I don’t see it in the sidebar though. But I find it hard to believe this is not related.

Any word on this? These lock icons just popped up for me today, but all my projects are shared with the entire team, not private to members. Thanks.

We are the same way, but everyone in our workspace is confused by the locks and why they see them if none of our projects are private.

Got a similar issue, but the other way around.
I have a ‘private to members’ project that had the lock and today it vanished.

I have the same issue today. All my projects now have locks on them.

You have my vote here!

Same here. Using the client, the padlocks have disappeared on Private projects in the sidebar. Now we can’t tell which projects are private without actually opening each individual project.
