View for Tasks where I'm a collaborator (under My Tasks and Projects)

This ‘Section’ request isn’t quite the same; I’m looking for the ability to use the ‘Section’ value as a filter like all the other existing filterable fields. (show me only unread tasks, assigned to me, from this/these sections)

The other post seems to be more about having a different filter set on each section (e.g. ‘Backlog’ section: unfiltered, ‘In Progress’ section filter by just ‘assigned to me and my team’). Both are nice though.

Ok, thanks, @DevLunsford. Feel free to add a new English Forum > Product Feedback topic for yours and vote there.

Will do. I think I thought I was doing that, so I must have missed something when I posted it  - and originally it seemed to me like it was one topic - needing to be able to filter on more items like Section and Collaborator that don’t appear in the filter list. I’ll keep it to Section though as Collaborator is already a request.

Thanks, @DevLunsford! Yes, the protocol could be more clear, so thanks for sticking with it…

SPOT ON.

I have a theory when building SOP’s that in order to opperate at peak effeciency, everything I need to get done needs to be on one place reffered to as “Hopper”. Then sort those into daily objectives. I can then label a task “OS” for Out Source.

I am ultimately responsible for the completion of this task so It needs to be visual in my Hopper. So I can see if it is not or not and plan the next day WITHOUT CLICKING to another place.

Why are you screaming?

This is very very very easily replicable by creating a saved search. It would literally be a few pixels from My Tasks. If I were Asana, I would consider this solved, especially if people scream at me

You can call it screaming I would say emphasizing and conveying with a sense of urgency. This is important to do because you just proved my point…

While this thread is filled with scenarios of users from scientist working on complex projects to dumb blue collar commercial roofers like myself providing examples of why this simple feature is needed and the mayhem its causing trying to find out who is doing what
At a glance
Without clicking to another location

The asana team (I assume thats you “Partner-Forum Leader”) seams to think its solved with a measly work around instead of making the modifications necessary to deliver a feature requested for the past 5 years…

I am emphasizing this because while simple, its the difference between go and great. Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave at the thought of your response right now.

Yall can do whatever you want, its your choice. However if your standard is to allow work arounds to quickly solve tickets eventually after enough tickets closed with a bunch of work arounds you’ll end up with a Windows grade product, some $1000 laptop that will last at best 4 years.

Or you can listen to your market, do the work, and provide a superior product like my mac desktop from 2002 that I use to run the printer software hooked up to my 40" printer I bought to print architectural plans.

This request originated 5 years ago, with a couple hundred… votes.

Asana has been a game changer and optimized my team’s productivity 10 fold. I am so incredibly impressed by the game theory the Asana leaders created in order to develop the software. I swear by it to all of my peers. I cannot make you do anything.

As captain of my ship, I will remember this comment of mediocracy. I plan on retiring 2 weeks before I die. For the rest of time I will be looking for signs of decline in the Asana software. Now while on the streets my ears will always be listening for alternatives, every mention of a competitor will get a tally…

The moment I see Asana roll out a Windows 8 like update… I will take the 3 competitors with the most tally’s and decide on one.

No matter the amount of pain we will have to endure, re writing SOP’s and re wiring the hard built neuro circuits in our brains to operate with our new task management software will become priority 1.

Providing a superior product doesn’t mean adding a button or view every time a few people ask for it for a long time, so I’ll have to disagree with you on this one. There are much more pressing issue with the product and I wouldn’t want an engineer spending a second on this topic since there is I believe a decent workaround in the meantime.

I don’t work for Asana, Asana will probably not give you an official answer, so you are stuck with me and this whole post co-written with others on the topic 🦄 If Wishes Were Unicorns: Why Asana Might Not Have Implemented that Feature Request (and other thoughts about Asana feature development and product strategy)

The grass is always greener on the other side. Every other tool have the same issue: not doing exactly what you expect.

Have a good day

Hi everyone,

@Adib_alami, thank you for sharing your thoughts— feedback is always valuable, and we truly appreciate it when it is constructive.

I’d like to support @Bastien_Siebman’s response here. Our product team actively listens to customer feedback, and while we strive to incorporate it into our roadmap, we have to prioritise updates that create the greatest impact for the broader community. As outlined in this post from our Chief Product Officer, customer input plays a vital role in shaping our product, and we deeply value the insights shared across our community.

That said, I want to take a moment to recognize the contributions of our Forum Leaders, Ambassadors, and Partners. They are not Asana employees but passionate users who dedicate their time to supporting and engaging with the community. While it’s natural to have differing opinions at times, let’s ensure discussions remain constructive and respectful—after all, we’re all here with the shared goal of making Asana better.

We understand that it can be frustrating when a feature you deeply care about hasn’t been prioritized yet. Our team constantly evaluates feedback in the context of the bigger picture to ensure improvements drive meaningful impact at scale. That being said, your feedback is invaluable, and we’ll make sure it reaches the team.

Thanks again!

Hello everyone,

I would like to create an overview where I can see all my tasks from each project + where I am collaborator, and each teammember can do it too.

I have already seen some solutions with the advanced search, but I am absolutly not a fan of it because I can’t sort it myself in a board which are done which are on waiting for response and so on.

I would prefer to simply use the my tasks field, which I can also set myself. however, the tasks that I have to supervise but am not responsible for are missing there.
Is there an option to add collaborator tasks to my task board without duplicating the task, or use advance search?

And if not, can you add this option?

I have currently solved it so that I have created a project, and whenever something is added to my tasks or I am added somewhere as a participant its also linked to this projekt so i have an overview of everthing. This is working for me but my team needs an overview where it can see there tasks and collab task in on click.

I know it from other project management tools that you can simply switch between my tasks and my tasks + collaborator in your task area. But not sure if Asana can provide this.

Thanks for the help,
Sebastian

It would be great for the My Tasks tab to show tasks users aren’t assigned to but are collaborators on, whether by default or a toggle.****

Welcome to the forum, @Erica_Feldman! I’ve moved your post to the existing feedback thread on this topic. Make sure you use the Vote button near the title to lend your support.

As this continues to gather votes and I see some skepticism in the comments about the need for this feature, I’ll add another couple of use cases:

  1. Supervisors or peers that find or plan time to help teammates who might be drowning at the moment or have unexpected leave—putting this within easy reach allows them to browse tasks not technically assigned to them and quickly contribute (reassign, tag for attention, review status and help make decisions). In some org. cultures I understand the, “Why on earth would you want to see tasks you’re not assigned?!” But some teams would love easier ways to pitch in for each other.
  2. We are inviting external (guest) collaborators only on specific tasks where they contributed UAT feedback that became an action item for our developer. It’s assigned to the developer. We’re providing the transparency of letting them see progress, ask questions, provide further clarity to the developer, etc. We chose not to set up a separate project and multi-home these tasks in a separate project shared with them. We realized they will only receive notifications in email and Asana inbox and will not see these items collected in any one place since they are not assigned to them. If there were a collaborator view within My Tasks, we could easily point them there. Advanced Search appears to not be available on all tiers, so we can’t coach them to set up the solution presented in the thread.

Voted and look forward to seeing this implemented in the future! This will help many in reviewing, collaborating, and cheering each other on toward that green completed check mark.

This would be a huge help in our current workflows!

Bumping this

We have an external user who accesses to specific tasks within one of our Asana projects. Since they dont have access to the entire Project their popout view on the left-side panel is blank. The only way for them to find ‘all tasks they are a collaborator on’ is by using the advanced search as outlined in How to view all tasks I am a collaborator on?

I would like for these tasks to show up in the My Tasks section. The problem is My Tasks only shows where you are the Assignee. We need a way to show ‘tasks where I am a collaborator’

I think this can be merged with View for Tasks where I'm a collaborator (under My Tasks and Projects) - #38 by Casey_Creveling
