Update Tasks in mulitiple sections

I’m wanting to update a task in Section A, based on tasks updating in Section B for example. If a task in Section B is in progress, that it updates the column in Section A. The reason being is that the Task in Section A is in another Projecct and we want to see a top level view for that section. I can only find in the workflow; the trigger of “moving” a task, or if a task is added to the project?

@Berenice_Northcott,

It’s hard to understand your request so maybe some screenshots or more specific writeup would help?

A task in a project can only be in one section at a time (using Asana’s terminology) so I’m wondering if you’re defining these terms differently to mean other things?

Hopefully we can help you with a better understanding.

Thanks,

Larry

Yes sorry I thought it might be tricky to understand.
I’ve attached an example…

So we we update a task in Section B - i can get it to update the “Delivery” Column, however I’d like it to also update the status of the task (Task 1) in SECTION A with the same status as Task 2.

Hope that makes more sense?

Yes, I think I understand now.

Rules trigger on a task and can then update that task, but it sounds like you’re asking for one task to update another task which is not a feature of rules; sorry!

Thanks,

Larry

Hi, @Berenice_Northcott .
Is your desire to automatically edit Task 1 whenever Task 2 is amended? Might sections and rules be utilised for this purpose? I can somewhat fathom the underlying requirement.

Perhaps, as @lpb suggests, it is indeed challenging within the current capabilities of Asana.
For, the rule is that one can alter their own task settings, yet cannot modify those of others. Creating new tasks or subtasks, however, remains permissible.
As an alternative, instead of directly modifying Task 1, how about notifying the relevant parties to review and confirm related tasks?
