Unassigning old completed subtasks

I’d like to declutter my My Tasks, but my Completed area is way too full. How do I mass unassign my subtasks? I’d prefer not to delete them.

The only option I see is assigning to someone else, which seems weird, as when I’m assigning, I can easily just remove myself by clicking the X. But that doesn’t show up in My Tasks.

We organize our clients by Projects (years), and the Tasks are jobs (sections are campaigns), and the subtasks are how I track my work and what needs to be done.

It’d be nice to be able to mass-unassign, since it seems like a simple feature to include the X to remove yourself vs. just assigning to someone else.

Right now, I’ve organized my completed tasks from the last 4 months.

More added context. We have to track our time outside of Asana right now, so I use my subtasks for this, as it’s a lot of moving parts and, ironically, takes time to input my time. It’d be nice to unassign work I’ve already tracked without deleting the subtasks, just so we can see some processes on the job/task itself later if we want.

@Jesse_DeShazo,

Many of us just move such tasks to the “Later” section in My Tasks and that addresses the issue, because we keep the Later section collapsed. (We also use Later for assigned tasks with future due dates that we don’t want to see now, and have rules to catch these when they’re a week out or due today to have them auto-promote.

If you’re not wild about that, then this would be a way to achieve what you’ve explicitly asked for:

Hi Larry, I appreciate the reply. However, moving items to another folder isn’t a solution. The goal is to remove subtasks from My Tasks, not shrink them and push them to the bottom of a list where they sit and keep growing.

My Tasks should remain cleanly My Tasks.

The option you share is like working in a company where projects have specific rooms and folders, but when I get work assigned, I take some of those folders and papers and put them in my office. Then, once I complete the work and the project, I have to keep those things in my office, even though the company has specific places for them. That doesn’t make sense and just adds clutter to my office. I should be able to take those items and put them back where they belong; that is just with the company.

I.e. Projects are those rooms/company; my office is My Tasks; tasks/subtasks are those papers; sections are those folders.

Asana is intuitive, with a philosophy that makes sense and offers flexibility. It even lets you unassign subtasks within a task by clicking the X on the name. Why was this feature removed in the bulk setting, which uses the same layout, except you can’t click the X on your name; you can only see it when you hover over it?

I’m shocked that this isn’t a feature yet. It seems like such a simple “gimme” to help users and remove friction.

@Jesse_DeShazo,

You can create a new topic in Asana Community > Product Ideas with your request, and include a link to this topic, and click the Vote button there, and others will be able to as well.

Thanks,
