Trello X Asana Import

Hello party people! :tada:

Hopeful to get insights from others on what successful extension can be used to export Trello and integrate into Asana.

Our content team has an extensive Trello board spanning several years with tons of data that has proven to be either too large for an extension to export, or improper extensions that miss out on important data when exporting.

Here is the list of programs we have not had success with so far:

Migrator-xyz

Trello native CSV export

Trelloexport chrome extension

export trello to excel chrome extension

The missing items during export include:

  • comments
  • attachments
  • subtasks

:dizzy: would be even more incredible if there was a way to format the export as well. So far the sync tends to drop all information into the Asana task description in an unstructured way. This is meant for historical context and reference, so it’s more an ideal than a requirement.

If this is necessary to export to csv and massage the data, please share your best practice!

Many thanks !!

Hi @Sarah_Yeung . I suggest you to try Altosio. So far it has worked flawlessly with any migrations we needed to Asana.

@Sarah_Yeung - I have not heard of Altosio, but since it appears to be a self-service tool BUILT for migrations, I’d start with that (great tip @David_Jane)!

If that doesn’t do the trick for you, you could try Unito.io. That’s how I migrated my extremely full trello boards to Asana when I migrated from Trello to Asana 7 or 8 years ago. It’s more built for syncing, but handles migrations beautifully too.

UPDATE: Unito now requires users to use a special migration-specific package and pricing, which I’ve never used, so I’m unaware of the pricing or service. So, their software does a great job, but I’m not sure of the current migration tool costs.

I used Altosio for a couple migrations including Trello and the support is excellent and the price is right–it was very low cost.

Just be sure to read the help for the app your migrating to Asana to make sure you’re aware of how it works (sometimes some features are impossible to support through APIs, for example)

Thanks,

Larry

Altosio is a good choice. Full analysis here with a couple of other options to consider

Hello again everyone !!

Thanks so much for the comments. :light_bulb:

We test outed both Unito and Altosio and here were our findings: Unito only works for syncing going forward and doesn’t import existing data. Unless there’s a way we can duplicate the Trello board as a workaround to manually copying and pasting over from the original board, it won’t be useful for us.

Altosio can transfer content but with significant limitations: media files don’t always transfer properly, subtasks come through without notes or attachments, and text formatting gets distorted in the task description in Asana.

Since Altosio had numerous votes, can we confirm that whether anybody else encountered the same issues as we did above? And if so, what were the solutions you found for them?

As well , we wanted to clarify the Planner License would suffice here for one user access , to import one project . Since Altosio plans seems to be paid per project, we wanted to confirm we read the plans correctly.

Much appreciate everyone’s input here !

@Sarah_Yeung, I think you’re best off with Altosio’s helpful support for all these questions.

Thanks,

Larry

We do API migrations.

Those cost more but can be customized much more, eg, including comments attachments, subtasks and comments.

The Trello API is very fragmented, but complete.
