Tasks from a deleted Project still present in Assignee's My Tasks

Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the Bug you’re experiencing:
I upload a CSV to create Tasks, but the US-UK date format dichotomy often causes problems as sometimes it works OK, and others not.
This time I had to create and delete the Project twice before I got the dates in UK format.
These deleted Projects do not appear in the organisation’s list of live Projects, but the incorrectly dated Tasks still appear in an Assignee’s My Tasks list.
Steps to reproduce:
Don’t particularly want to generate any more dodgy entries, thanks!
Browser version:
She’s using a Mac.

Hi @Tim_Johnson and thanks for the report!

This is actually an expected behaviour, you can learn more about it in this article: Setting Up a Project in Asana | Product Guide • Asana Product Guide. The best way to get rid of these tasks is to multi-select and unassigned them all in one go!

If you haven’t yet, I’d also recommend adding your vote to this thread from our #productfeedback category: Option to exclude archived projects/tasks from search

Hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any follow up questions!

Hi Marie,

Thanks for the very prompt response. Impressive!

However, the suggested solution isn't relevant, I'm afraid, as the

2 incorrect Projects have already been deleted some time
ago by me (not archived - I can’t archive them as they don’t exist ),
but these rogue Tasks still appear in one of the Assignee’s Task
lists. (It may affect other users and I have asked a couple to
look for me).

  Any other thoughts?

  Kind Regards,

  Tim Johnson

That does sounds strange, assigned tasks should only show up for archived projects, not for deleted ones. Could you please share the URL of one of these task so I can look into this further?

Looking forward to your reply!

Hi Marie,

Unfortunately, I don't have any of these rogue entries myself,

which is a bit of an inconvenience when we are trying to
troubleshoot this problem.

How do I "share the URL" please? If the instructions are pretty

straightforward I should be able to ask one of my colleagues to do
that.

  Thanks for your help.

  Tim

To share the URL, simply head to one of these tasks and copy-paste the URL from your browser. That will allow us to investigate this issue further.

You can recommend your colleagues to delete these tasks from their MyTask following these steps: Task actions: create, move, duplicate, and more | Product guide • Asana Product Guide and use the multi-select feature if they have many of these tasks in their My Tasks.

Looking forward to your reply!

Hi Marie,

As I said, I don't have any of these rogue Tasks, but I have managed

to get the URL for one of them from a colleague, as below:

This should have imported from a CSV file as a Task dated 8 Nov

2019, but, for some reason this time, the dates were transposed into
US format despite the CSV date field being formatted as DDMMYYY.

As for deleting Tasks, I do NOT want colleagues to delete anything

as we have a wide mix of IT abilities, and I fear that someone could
easily delete a valid Task. Basically, none of these rogue Tasks
should be there in the first place as the Projects creating them
have been deleted.

Thanks in anticipation.

Tim

Hi @Tim_Johnson,

As it stands our CSV importer only supports US date format, so in order for your CSV to import correctly, you need to input your dates in your CSV following this format (MM/DD/YYYY). You can learn more about date formatting in this article: https://asana.com/guide/help/api/csv-importer#gl-tips.

If you do not want your colleagues to touch these tasks, you should be able to access them yourself by searching for all tasks assigned to them and sorting them by creation date:

Hope this helps!

Hi Marie,

Thanks for the CSV import guide. That looks very useful -

although I had thought I’d done exactly that last time! - and I’ll
check it out again the next time I have to create a Project from
my CSV template.

As for your other suggestion, I'm not able to Search for Tasks

that I’ve assigned to other people as that’s a Premium function,
and we are using the Free version. I have, however, looked at the
long list of all Tasks that I’ve created which was where I deleted
the rogue tasks from my desktop a few days ago - but they are
still on my colleagues’ desktops. I know that for a fact as I had
a screen-sharing Skype session with one of them yesterday which
clearly still has some of these rogue Tasks showing on there.

Did the URL I sent help you identify what was going wrong?

  Kind Regards,

  Tim

I have the same problem. I have dozens of orphaned tasks from projects deleted recently. I just did a test project, added a task, and then deleted the project. The task still shows up, just the project name is missing.

I too have this same problem.

This is just bad data management, not EXPECTED BEHAVIOR. . . to put it mildly and plainly - you now have orphaned records!! :child:t4: :no_entry_sign: :houses:
