My team and I have fully embraced the task types model we developed, creating specific task types for meeting notes, tools, and even regular tasks, each with distinct “working” and “completed” statuses. This approach addresses the hidden friction of having to click into a task twice just to update its status. In calendar view, updating a task’s status directly is much faster and more intuitive, and the increased visibility has encouraged the team to keep tasks updated more consistently.

The challenge, however, is that Advanced Search currently doesn’t support filtering by task type and status. This makes cross-project tracking—such as checking which tasks are “In Review”—difficult and creates gaps in our workflow. Enabling Advanced Search to filter by specific task types and their statuses would be a huge improvement, allowing us to leverage the full benefits of our task types system while maintaining visibility and efficiency across projects.

Welcome, @Kay_Oldow1,

Great point; and I agree.

I’ve moved your post to where you can click the title to scroll to the top and vote by clicking the Vote button (as I just did).

And I tried to enquire about this, so perhaps we’ll hear something back.

Thanks,

Larry

While Advanced Searches can return custom task types, I’d definitely like the ability to set a filter to only show one or more custom task types by any status or some subset of statuses by type.

Is there a way to search for all tasks that are a specific custom task type?

I need to find all uses of a particular custom task type that we have, as I’d like to bulk-update a custom field we have on them all.
I can’t find a way to filter or edit the search for it though, and they’re not all named the same.
We’re not currently set up to use the APIs so I need this to be doable in the UI.

You can filter projects by custom task types, but I know this task type is used in around 100 projects so it’s not feasible for me to do it that way.

Hi @Alice_Croft,

FYI I’ve merged your post with an existing thread on this topic.

There isn’t currently a way to do it; the existing thread here is requesting that it be added to the product. You can add your vote for it at the top of the thread!

I didn’t find any comments on this; apologies if it’s here and I missed it.

As far as I can find, there’s not a way to view all projects using a certain task type (or all tasks of a certain task type).

We can view what projects use what custom fields, forms, and rules, but not task types.

Hi @Becky_Holston1 , thank you for contributing but this sounds more like a ‘but’ for @Bastien_Siebman to consider including in his post of ‘[buts](https://forum.asana.com/t/asana-show-me-your-buts/225382)’ (aka gotchas)

This post focuses on listing all measurable limitations (i.e. that have a number limit)

Thanks!

Also, if you can do anything with the API or Script Actions, consider this:

I’m missing a filter in the global advanced search that would let me filter by specific custom task types.
