Support for .heic format

Any updates? Need heic support asap

Is it an issue that complicated to fix? I’m speechless…

Woohoo 6 year request!

I noticed that photos from one of our team members are showing as .heic files.

Why is this? They are taking the photos directly within Asana.

What do I need them to do moving forward so they are not HEIC files?

Thank you!

Hi @Garrett_Knoll ,
Hope all is well - i’ve never really been active here in the community before but here in hope to push this one along please! Its been a real pain since Heic photos became the only format. looking forward to the fix.

This is a critical need for us - it’s not surprising to see this being requested since 2020. This issue persists regardless of whether the photo was taken from inside the Asana app or attached at a later date.

I know this isn’t in Asana, but use this tiny shell extension, File Converter, which works great for Windows. Here’s the link to it: File Converter - Convert & compress everything in 2 clicks!

This is a critical problem for us too. Will need to look at moving to another tool that supports this as it’s really disrupting our workflow :frowning:

Hi everyone! Thanks for your patience on this request. As promised, I followed up with teams and have made this happen :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:. We have this running internally and will ship it very soon to you all!

Also a HUGE personal shout out to the engineer @Chris_Liu1 who heard your request and took it upon himself to lead a solution outside of the backlog for his team :folded_hands:

We are still struggling with HEIC issues - they seem to be attached to a task like an attachment rather than an image, preview/thumbnail is not available. Would you be able to confirm whether the update that you mentioned is already deployed?

Sorry for the delay, I just checked in with the team. Because this was a special Forum feedback driven project outside of regular roadmap capacity, it’s been delayed a bit longer than expected to be production ready. But nevertheless it’s still in the works! Thank you for your patience here :folded_hands:

A little bit proud that it happened after my initial :smiling_face_with_tear: post six years ago.

As well you should be @Finn_Stenberg,

You’ve are helping to shape Asana. :flexed_biceps:

@Finn_Stenberg I’m sorry / embarrassed it’s taken 6 years :see_no_evil_monkey:. My team and I are actively working to bring that average down. But we appreciate your patience! We’re super close, but are dealing with the final sequencing of the deployment across client apps.

No worries at all! I work in the SaaS business so I know how hard it is to prioritise!

@Finn_Stenberg thank you for the grace! FWIW you started this post and though I can’t share screenshots of how much I’ve pushed, the team is still working on it and we’re so grateful for you helping influence this.

You guys charge a lot of money and yet for 6 long years cannot ā€œprioritiseā€ .heic file support. If it takes more than half a decade to get such a feature in, you’re failing as a company. I’m sorry but I’ve managed software projects for 15 years as well and it doesn’t take this long to add a new file format.

Welcome, @Prashant_Vaibhav,

In case you didn’t see the recent posts and the ā€œin developmentā€ tag, this feature actually has been prioritized and is expected soon.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi all, this will unfortunately be my first post where I have to back track on my optimism. For all our well intentioned efforts, HEIC images are not natively supported in most browsers (Chrome, Firefox etc). While the work the team had done during and post hackathon had addressed many of the issues, it created a whack-a-mole effect for non-HEIC image types across other devices and platforms. I know this is disappointing, and this isn’t us giving up entirely… but we ultimately didn’t feel comfortable prioritizing an Apple mobile format over the consistency and reliability of all of the widely used image formats. This is still in our backlog, but we just can’t prioritize further at this point.

I appreciate the transparency.
