Subtask of a task in project that i dont have access to

Hello,

I have an accounts payable process project. There I add invoices via a form and send it out to relevant manager for approving.

After the invoice is approved, our project manager would like to link the approved invoice as subtask of their task in a project. Hope that makes sense.

I don’t have access to that project currently and would prefer to not have access to the project. How can I allow a project manager to add the task as a subtask of their project?

Please advise?

Hi,

If said manager has edit permission on the task, they will be able to attach them as subtask elsewhere. They need to go to the “…” menu and click “convert > subtask”

How can I check if the member has edit function for the particular task? As it is currently, the manager does not have access to my accounts payable project and the permission right for task collaborator is set to comment only.

If I assign the task to the manager, would they be able to add it to their project as a subtask? And following on, will they retain the access of the subtask even if I the task is unassigned?

I recently run into similar situation with my manager and realize how Asana cascade permission work. If you want your manager to have access to the entire project, it is best to add your manager as member of the project. You can then manage the permission here.

When assign task or sub-task to manager, the manager will only have access to the task itself as the process intend “assign you to complete the task”. By design, the assignee should have minimum permission to modify the task you created.

Hope this helps.

If the parent task is in a project that’s off-limits, the subtask will be too. A quick fix is to make a new subtask in a project everyone can access or ask the task owner to add the project manager as a collaborator.
