Hey! 
I want to see effort in a particular month on a task, however some tasks are overlapping several months. I have an effort field for days but that encompasses both months and when reporting it becomes a bit tricky.
I can create two effort fields e.g. Effort (July) and Effort (August) but wanted to know if anyone else has any better, less messy ideas?

As you mentioned, I also think a workaround for this would be to create separate fields. Then you will be able to create separate reports by each field and save them.
You can also organize your tasks per month, and if a task encompasses two months, you can split the task in two and assign specific due dates. This would help you to have a clear overview from the beginning to the end of the month.
