My company uses a field to track the “Lease Commencement Date” but we are unable to sort that field from oldest to newest as it is stored as text.
Would it be possible to add another field type for “date” under the Custom Fields that would allow us to sort from oldest to newest and Vice Versa?

This is a popular request and @Marie or @Natalia will likely merge your request with an existing one, but I don’t think this is on the immediate horizon for delivery. In the meantime, you can consider entering your values in the format 2020-01-06 which at least would let you sort in ascending order.
