Show Conversation by default instead of in the "more" button

Asana decided to hide the “conversation” page with an update. It is now in the “more” button which is annoying. Move it back.

We completely agree. Clients that don’t use the platform on a regular basis are repeatedly getting lost, confused and frustrated.

The conversations tab seems like a great idea - a place to keep all discussions about a project in general, rather than commenting on specific tasks which disappear when complete, BUT it would be so much more useful if it could be set up so that it appeared alongside the task list when you first go into a project. It could then disappear once a task is selected and the task window opens up.
I feel that I would use the Conversations tab more if it was immediately visible on opening a project, at the moment I don’t use it at all.

Hi @Rob_Nabney :wave:t4:

Thank you so much for posting your recommendation for Conversations in the Forum.

I’m happy to hear that you are seeking to make better use of the Conversations feature. I personally think your proposed changes sound like a great way to not only have easier access to this feature, but also a great way to promote more dialogue between your teammates.

Kind regards,

Cathya

Thanks Cathya,

Hi!
Nice to see someone with an Asana badge agreeing! Hopefully you’re in a position to make it happen?!

Thanks for the reply @Rob_Nabney :wave:t4:

Just wanted to let you know that you’ve found the correct place, while these decisions involve multiple stakeholders please note that our Development Team often scouts ideas for new features here.

I will advocate for this request, but others also have the ability to upvote it. This gives your request more visibility.

I hope this helps! Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Kind Regards,

Cathya

So we use Asana in our busy little agency. With a little help from Google forms and Zapier, we now create new projects from a Google form, which creates a new project folder on our gdrive, and populates it with blank documents.

Our one piece of admin is to go into the newly created project, and attach the gdrive files to the project by posting them in a conversation topic.

Why has the “conversation” tab been hidden, and “forms” (which is not part of our tier service) put in its place?

It only means an extra click, but repeat that a few thousand times and it adds up to a whole stack of time.

The space exists to unpack the whole tab menu to include “conversations” and “files” and to remove options that simply aren’t active or available (e.g “forms”).

Please can we have the conversation tab back on the main project page, and not hidden in a submenu? Conversations have always been a central feature of every project, along with List and Timeline, we don’t understand why they have been relegated to a submenu item!

Cheers

D

Hi @David_Ruder and thank you so much to take time to share your feedback wit us. I completely understand where you are coming from.

We already have a thread regarding this topic in the Forum, so I’ve gone ahead and merged your post with the main thread to consolidate feedback and votes. I hope that is OK.

Have a great Monday!

I think my issue is separate from this - I am wondering why the conversations tab has disappeared from the project page?

I must agree with David. Our team members find it extremely difficult to use the conversation tab now. It’s been much easier before. Can you not just expand the tabs to show ‘discussions’ and ‘files’ if there is enough space available?

Thank you Matthias,

It’s difficult to understand the reasoning behind this decision.

Standard UI conventions would suggest that a single click to each of the project sections (list, calendar, timeline, conversations, progress, files) is ideal, if they can’t all be placed on the same page.

The forms feature should be hidden if it isn’t active.

My suspicion is Asana is trying to drive users up to the next tier.

Hiding functionality, and highlighting non-functional choices seems like a way of alienating users, not convincing them to upgrade.

It’s a shame if that’s the case.

I get putting all of the “premium” tabs on the display, to help drive that… but not at the cost of basic ones like Conversations and Files. I’m dumbfounded by this move as Conversations would be used much more than Progress, for example (at least for us). Currently my tabs are List / Timeline / Calendar / Progress / Forms… so half of the tabs are un-usable for customers without Premium. Meanwhile Conversations takes an extra click every single time.

Fair enough - there’s plenty (on the desktop app) of space to include forms, conversations, files tabs along the top.

I just cannot fathom why anyone would hide such an important part of the project view behind a “more…” label.

It’s crazy, and although I’m not expecting an explanation, and we’re not going to ditch Asana in a big flounce, this tiny but crucial change has had real negative impact in our office.

Bemused and ticked off here. It’s really hard to use a PM tool when it keeps shifting under your feet. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

As an addendum - we have stopped using the conversation feature altogether, and have abrogated this onto the “Flag task” that is at the top of every project.

It’s not pretty, but it keeps the important info one click away, where we want it.

Irksome to have to work around new features

Hi,

i would like to see all options instead of drop down list. There is enough space to put them all visible by default.

Have a great Tuesday!

Would be great to be able to show conversations or similar in the project area somewhere for general project discussions.

Is it possible to re-arrange the tabs at the top of a project? Specifically, we’d like to make “Conversations” more visible rather than a drop-down option under “More”.

Hello team,

Can you make all options in this picture into online line?

Thanks,
