Our marketing team has templates defined to use when creating our marketing projects. In each template, the project is added automatically to the Marketing Projects portfolio.
In that portfolio, there are five custom fields that need to be filled in for reporting & planning purposes. It isn’t difficult or time-consuming to go back to the portfolio and fill in those fields - but since it requires an extra step, folks don’t always do it (and yes, there is a task in the project as a reminder
).
I would love to see a step during the project creation process to pick values for the portfolio custom fields, similar to the way you assign someone to a role. It would be even better if you could specify certain fields that are required, but even enumerating all the available ones (so there’s an opportunity to set them while creating the project) would be an improvement.
Edit: I should clarify that we aren’t converting tasks to projects, we are creating projects directly from templates.
